You'd worry about his "speed" after a hamstring tera He's quicker than most of a current squad with his hamstring injury

Watched a Charlton vs Reading game back end of last season. Charlton were shite but Doughty stood out as a very good player. Said in the summer he would be my go to. I'd be surprised if they accepted £650,000. But then again I have no idea about Charlton's finances. Edit: he's out of contract at the end of the season - seems much more realistic now. They might be tempted because the two Glasgow clubs can sign him on pre-contract agreement and they get nowt because it's an international move. If he's not going to sign they might take our offer. Shrewd move by us I think, he'd be 7 figures if fit with more contract months. It's a gamble for sure but he's got time if not rushed back to get over it.

Can't see Charlton rejecting the offer?
Just a case of whether other teams come in and if Doughty fancies it.
If Gary Mellor is representing him, that may help!

Seven figures suggests we have more wiggle room in terms of FFP than expected.

I take offers like this is a positive from a FFP perspective as it suggests we may be in a better position than some think. Either that or we’re banking on it being scrapped.....

www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/alfie-doughty-stoke-transfer-bid-23267446Stoke City have made the first move of the January window for Alfie Doughty - but Celtic remain in the hunt. The English Championship outfit tabled a six figure bid for the versatile left-sided player on Tuesday. Charlton Athletic are keen to cash in on Doughty now rather than running the risk of losing him under freedom of contract in the summer. There is other English interest outside of Michael O’Neill ’s bid and the Addicks are hoping that increased interest will push up his value.

If he and Rabbi ever did get onto the same pitch, sounds like they could be the fastest pair of wide players in the division.

I don't see the plus points of going to Celtic, they aren't even guaranteed to win trophies anymore either.

Don't like the suggestion in the Daily Record of other English interest and a potential bidding war.
If it's Premier, wouldn't think we'd have much of a shot?
And one of the bigger Champ clubs could be a struggle.
Personally I wouldn't be attracted to Scotland at all, but he may be, especially if Gerrard and Rangers were also interested.

Aren't we one of the big clubs in this league though? The fact we aren't a shit show anymore and have a widely respected manager in charge will put us near the top of the list surely. Those 10 years in the Prem holds a lot of sway on potential incoming players I think.

Surely having Beswicks as his agent will play a massive part. Maybe the idea is he fills in at left back until Fox is back then he slots into left wing. If he signs it'll be the end of Tymon hopefully.

Transfermarkt says he's played there 9 times - but these quotes from Bowyer suggests he sees him much more of an attacking player? Mmmm... Maybe not as a quick fix LB then?! - but could maybe be... With McClean, he is only going to go south - (I know it’s contentious on this forum as to his worth but) he’ll need replacing at some point in the next 1-3yr max* If this happens, then it starts to look like the board are willing to back the ethos of MoN and let him start building a decent team - but spending fairly recent money on young players from below us wanting to move on up. Be good if some of our supporters could get on board too and stop blathering about it not being good enough that we haven’t signed another bojan. - but then a promising ‘European’ youngster signing might shut those lot up for a bit. [*don’t bother with all the ‘he should have been replaced years ago’, we know what you think]

Hopefully we're looking at Pickering for that! Beswicks will hopefully be putting a very positive spin on a MON Stoke era

Yeah - suppose unless it's one of the relegated Champ teams, we'd be in with a decent chance competing with the rest. Any Prem interest could blow us away on wages you'd think though

Let's hope Vokes or Brown ain't waiting in the middle when the crosses come in. On the law of averages, Vokes will get on the end of one of them as he will still be lumbering around having tried to get on the end of the cross that came in two attacks earlier. He just has to stay onside that’s all.😂😂

Seven figures suggests we have more wiggle room in terms of FFP than expected. We have got a manager who worked for a global multi billion financial service provider (Ernst & Young) who has probably more insight than our Chief Operating Executive, who has got to be past his shelf life.

I wasn't convinced he'd make the step up to league one so easily but he has, I thought Ng would be the one who'd go first but he's been very poor so far in league one and is now banned for spitting at a player.

Beswicks will hopefully be putting a very positive spin on a MON Stoke era That's the thing though - are we bringing him in to play at LB or are we bringing him in to replace McClean? Either would make sense, arguably being McClean's replacement making more sense.
