As is Ince and he tries to play on the right. Is Ince left footed? I wouldn't have known. Well sort of!

This thread is rapidly turning into the latest "Josh Tymon to sign tomorrow" thread that lasted all summer few seasons ago. That summer was an absolute shit show if I remember correctly. Topped off by announcing a Hull U23 academy player like he was a record signing on Twitter. Wasn’t that the window when we signed wimmer?

Oh, so possibly not all signed and sealed as we thought.

This can’t be true, broken biscuits said Bournemouth weren’t interested 😁 Bournemouth are definitely the biggest rivals there. Small time club, but one that more likely to be back in the Prem next year.

Welcome Alfie, can't wait to see you in a Stoke shirt next season. Fingers crossed. How come it's taken so long to become official? It looks like we'll have Clarke wrapped up before Doughty, and he was only linked this morning wasn't he?

You’d have to think this is pretty much in the bag if MON speaking so openly about him.

Anyone know if Alfie D has signed?

Anyone know if Alfie D has signed? If he had, there would be no point in hiding the fact - especially as he is injured and isn't going to play for his current club for a few weeks. So, I assume he hasn't signed yet. MON did mention in his press conference that the fact that he was currently injured made finalising the deal a bit tricky.

Pleased to see one criterion for interest in players has been confirmed. Could their names be used as characters in “Call the Midwife” or “Downton Abbey”?

We knew he was injured when we first started bidding. If there's a bit of money in the kitty it'd be better used towards a lower division goalscorer rather than an injured player who we couldn't even play until next season anyway.

If he is injured and cannot play until end feb or march why is there a rush to make the signing even if we are letting him stay at Charlton. This one will be resolved on the last day of the transfer window - TS would not walk away from the chance of saving a few weeks wages.

Certainly has potential but Ollie Shenton, N'Goy and a list before them. Some just follow the crowd and get this idea in their head that these players are something they're not and repeat the same old. MON transformed Campbell for me, was a raw talent who needed work and improved him in so many areas. Those repeatedly calling for Verlinden and making up comments to try and back up their argument obviously know better than an experienced manager who works with him daily of course. [br The thing is , unlike the afformentioend Shenton and Ngoy we have all seen what Verlinden can do... he has started games of football for us and looked positive and a threat. He started against Preston and was doing ok on the night he got injured. As result of what folk have seen they, understandably , question why he’s not considered or selected more when we’ve been having to put up with Vokes , Brown and Ince. He more ability than the 3 of them. Sorry but to say he has more ability isn't true. Ince has performed at this level although would quite happily see him go this window as form has dropped massively. Verlinden looked ok at best, let's not get carried away like so many others .

Can he play striker? I’ve never read any suggestion to say that he can. As such, it’s a bit odd to say why is Vokes or Brown playing instead of Verlinden given that both of them have been playing as central strikers of late.

In a team crying out for forward creativity with so many injuries the manager who works with him, knows Verlinden better than us lot put together and not picked him. We've seen it all before on here and not once have these players proved us wrong. Just the same old crying out for a player with no justification and many join in.

But surely this is an entirely different case study. I heard from somewhere that Verlinden is the emerging equivalent to the Belgian Cruyff. 120 blinkered Stoke fanatics can't all be wrong!

I think I read somewhere that he will be signed by Stoke and then returned to Charlton on loan.

As always happens on this forum. When a player is out injured for any period of time the memory plays tricks on us and we begin to think the player out injured is suddenly world class and they will tear opposing teams apart upon there return..this is true of verlinden who if were honest has in the short opportunities he has had in the first team - usually from the subs bench with 15 minutes to go done ok but only ok. Has created a couple of decent crosses yes. But was also shown to be quite physically weak and often easily lost possession to the opposing full back. Lets try and keep some reality when were talking about players out injured and the impact they will make in the first team. Joe Allen is a prime example..while out injured some on this board morphed him into the welsh pirlo, some all energetic, creative playmaker who would protect our defence and create chances for our strikers..in reality upon his return he still has no positional sense. Runs around like a headless chicken. Bad first touch second touch a foul. Easily pushed off the ball. And couldnt pick a forward pass to save his life.. Maybe vokes out injured would morph him into the next Van Basten..

The Welsh Pirlo tongue in cheek and a nickname he had long before he joined us, like Parlour The Romford Pele. Allen has played and performed at the top level, Verlinden unproven at our level . No doubt when he leaves and entually scores in a foreign league will be a dozen pages on it.

MON quickly shut Angela down when she asked about incoming players.
Basically a straight up 'no', until others leave (which he didn't sound hopeful about either)
Interesting to see what's happening with Doughty given the way it was looking

He's injured and is being loaned back to Charlton so don't see why it's a priority to announce it.
