Would a full lockdown mean football would be suspended again as it was last time?. Some would say wish it never started back up

They have an FA Cup tie this weekend...Wonder if they will cancel and forfeit it. Good Question that and I’d imagine Derby will have to test a few more quickly after playing there Friday night

Seems like the plan is to carry on with professional football for the time being.

Certainly throws the transfer window into disarray if the football was cancelled in a Lockdown. Some will want to sell to batten down in lower leagues and some might not bother buying if it started to run close to July why waste the money.

Football should stop ...country can’t afford to have medical staff at football grounds waiting for incidents/accidents..when they should be at hospitals or out dealing with virus patients

It’s a very clever virus. It doesn’t affect football. It should be cancelled immediately

It’s a very clever virus. It doesn’t affect football. It should be cancelled immediately Behave Clyde They are rigorously tested on a regular basis so it’s all safe and if positive they are taken out ....that’s the difference between that level and everything else It’s like saying it’s a clever virus and it doesn’t affect medical staff so we should be stopped in the same way Life has to go on mate

Long covid could mean the end of a few careers, it makes sense to stop all football until all players and staff have been vaccinated. Perhaps they'll cancel it in a month or so, but like everything else this government does it'll be far too late for some.

Rant over.

Is football an essential? IMHO no. The new variant is out of control, for me lockdown should mean lockdown. These footballers can’t be trusted as it is. I think all sport should be hit on the head for a month. I know that’s an unpopular decision and people won’t agree with me but that’s where I’m at with it

www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/55540397The Premier League says 40 players and club staff have tested positive for coronavirus over the past week - more than double the previous weekly high. "With low numbers of positive tests across the overwhelming majority of clubs, the league continues to have confidence in its Covid-19 protocols, fully backed by the government, to enable fixtures to be played as scheduled," said the Premier League. I'm wondering whether they are working to a figure where they would consider suspending football? They are saying 40 is low!

I'm wondering whether they are working to a figure where they would consider suspending football? They are saying 40 is low! 40 is clearly high by their testing measures but low as with regards to that there ls probably a good few hundred if not thousands of people checked on a regular basis at clubs. & those 40 will be dotted around at clubs throughout the country. I'm guessing the U23 squads and below at all clubs will be being constantly monitored and tested to so that is a fair quota of tests. Clubs have generally dealt with it really well and something they're doing by way of the regular testing must be working. Stokes own cases have been very isolated. Recall MON having it a while back, McClean I think had and most recently Souttar. But certainly hasn't ravaged through the club when one player has been found to have it. Next few weeks may well be crucial, if they get towards the 100 positive test mark and more clubs are cancelling games then I'm sure they'll have to look at it again regards continuing as they are.

Out door in the fresh air. Plenty of PPE Plenty of testing It was a knee jerk reaction to stop it last March Like it was to shut opticians and Dentist’s (who are still working this time) I’m no anti lockdowner, far from it but there are some things that don’t need stopping and professional football is one of them. In my opinion of course.

Hey up mate on a bit of a tangent here but what’s the crack with the Derby takeover? It’s gone ominously quiet.

Very good question mate and if you read their forum there’s a lot of worried supporters at the moment. The local media keep saying everything is still on track and it will happen shortly but for the 2nd year running the players didn’t get their wages between Christmas and New Year🤔

I suppose that could mean it’s imminent and the twat Morris doesn’t want to fork out what he won’t get back. But I’d be shitting myself personally if I were a Derby fan. And now they’ve got Covid.
