But isn't that the old risk versus reward conundrum that everyone making a pass has to weigh up. Powell being the obvious example. Quick passing to release a player in space. Poorly implemented it looks sloppy, done well it creates advantage. He's 20, isn't he, Joe? I'm guessing there's still much improvement in his game.

The problem is that so many goal scoring opportunities are created from defenders and goalkeepers trying too hard to emulate what goes on in the top leagues without realizing that they aren't that good. Sending a quick pass out to a fullback is great if that fullback is charging forward and trying to counter. Smashing a hard ball low to the right to a fullback who is being closely monitored and not looking to push forward is stupid and dangerous. It infuriates me to see Stoke do it and Bursik does it far too often.

Whilst he’s been very good after a few early game nerves. Since his player of the month I feel his form has dropped.
A couple of mistakes in the last few games, and I may be harsh but I think he should be doing better with the second. It felt similar to the Pukki goal all be it the other side.
I think once Gunn/Davies is fit one needs to come in with Bursik out on loan (hopefully in the championship). He is undoubtedly going to be a top level keeper but we need to manage him a little now.
As a young player he is going to have inconsistent patches.
We’re a young team and these runs of form are inevitably going to happen and I personally wouldn’t be too disappointed if MON all but wrote off this season, and just stuck with the youth to develop for next year.

Exactly my thoughts, but I really rate Bursik. Still I think Davies didn't do anything wrong before he got injured and deserves a second chance now.

His shot stopping is abysmal, anything low and hard goes in.

I think he does a lot of things really well. Good handing and kicking. Good coming off his line. His first save last night was excellent but why try to get the ball the second time? There player is going away from goal, just make yourself big to block his shot if that's what he does. The second was poor. He's too close to his near post. I accept it takes a bounce right over his had but he should be smothering that if his positioning is right.

It’s hard to judge Joe, his distribution and handling has been excellent. During his really good run of form how many shots did he stop? I think that shot stopping is his weakness which in a keeper isn’t great!
We’re in a bad run form wise and the sensible thing to do would be to bring back Davies if fit, hoping he can have the impact he did last season.
It’s the same with all modern keepers you don’t see the same level of shot stopping because they are all supposed be sweeper keepers. Joe will probably end up at one of the really big clubs for his feet alone.

He can't save a shot for his life though. I would have saved that one last night. You'd think it would be an easier part of the game for him to improve on. His decision making in the area etc is superb and that's hard to find.

Some clutching at straws to have a go at the lad here. Great first save before getting it wrong for the second attempt, which gave away the penno. He did what most 'keepers would have done, gone for the rebound, but he got it wrong. As for their second, had Campbell tucked away that ball into the far corner we would all be applauding him for a great goal. Placed correctly and with power, as that shot was, very few keepers stop them. So, for me, he made one error last night. And for that, some of you want to drop him? His all-round keeping and the way he commands his area is 1st class. Davies and Gunn are both good keepers but they'll make mistakes too.
OS.

If it is hard and low it is a keepers mare, and i think Joe has been unfortunate to have faced a few perfectly executed shots and not helped with strikers having been afforded too much space and time.

I like Bursik - he's got that Manuel Neuer swagger that will take him a long way if he channels it. But right now he's making mistakes.
So just as we're putting up with Clarke, Norrington-Davies, and Matondo's inconsistencies so they can get better for someone else's benefit so we should do with Bursik - particularly whilst we've got a good No 1 on the books.
It's the way modern football works.

Makes me fucking piss when people say he should be dropped before the defence lose confidence in him. Fucking hell it should be the other way around. Where the fuck was the defensive help he needed after the first save where he obviously thought he needed to go for the second? No fucking where that's where. Norrington Davies doing a great impression of a scrum half, Chester the pace of a snail. And you want to drop the keeper? Fucking laughable arse gravy!

We've GOT to stick with him. There is only one way he will learn and grow and that is in the team.
He made an error at Rotherham the other night by dawdling on the ball. Last night, he got the ball in and out of his feet with speed. Lesson learned. Moved on.
The lad has serious talent and the way forward for us as a club from here on in is to bring through the best talented youngsters we have alongside experienced players, stick with them through the good and the bad and grow their careers and our club.
No way should we drop him now.

Seems his mum is quite surprised by how quickly a section of Stoke fans have been to stick the boot into him, the players and the manager.
Sad.

It's sad isn't it Dave. He has done fantastically well, given the circumstances when he was dropped in at the deep end. I would imagine MON will be a voice of reason for him. I would imagine the manager is well respected and popular with the players?.

If you think of SCFC as a business playing him has turned him from a few hundred thousand to a few million pound asset.

Joe has been selected for the under 21 European championship 👍 Was just reading about the format this year, guess it makes sense with everything going on. Still a bit mad though. He fully deserves to be in there too, well done to him.

He should displace Ramsdale after a another successful first team spell in the Championship (either with us or on loan). Ramsdale is god awful.

No where near his peak

We have nothing to play for this season.
Bursik or Davies should play every game and Gunn as a loanee should play no further part.
Didn’t MON complain our bloated squad is blocking the progress of younger players

I think Bursik could stake a claim for the number 1 at the U21 Euros. Ramsdale ahead of him at the moment but not having a great season so if Joe were to get another run of games for us and do well he could put himself in with a shout. Don’t know anything about the other lad Griffiths. Great to see one of our young lads at a tournament regardless!
