So, if we could get one player in for January, what position would be best to address? For me, it has to be striker. I live in the hopes that Davies will come back strong around January, that Allen may add another option in midfield and that Shawcross may get back to fitness.....that’s a lot of ifs and hopes though.
However, yesterday showed that when Fletcher isn’t playing, we are crap. Campbell needs Fletcher on as much as anyone. He’s someone to link up properly with further up the pitch. Gregory can’t do that. Vokes can’t bully defenders the way that Fletcher can. Brown is the only other option and I haven’t really seen enough to figure him out yet, but I wouldn’t fancy us to continue pushing for top 6 with him leading the line.
I feel we really need a striker to come in on loan in January and offer us something different from the bench. Where does everyone else sit on the single position most important to address?

Still left back for me, I said Fox would be shit but he's probably even worse than I expected. Don't mind him as the left centre half in a back three but he is never a fullback.

Joe Lolley hasn’t really been able to get a game since Hughton came in, I wonder if they would make him available to free up some funds?

A Dynamic CM who can pass forwards and has pace and strength. Someone in the Sawyers mould.
Then a LB or RB.

Vokes seems to have totally regressed these last few months. We can't start him in Fletcher's absence. I would try and develop Brown as a central striker, hold up is decent and better in the air.

Could we not play Campbell centrally when Fletcher's not fit though? His hold-up play has come on leaps and bounds. I suspect we won't do much in January but there are areas of the first XI that need strengthening. Right back being the obvious one.

That strong creative midfielder with pace we've not seen in a long time, or an Alan Hudson type midfielder

The issue in there at the minute and all season has been letting runners go imo. Mikel's passing range has been really good and I think if he played alongside someone who held their position we'd get so much more out of him.

It probably won't be long before both Allen and Thompson are back playing, and Cousins didn't do too badly at the end of last season either in that position so I wouldn't bring any new faces in at CM. A left wingback, a right wingback and a winger would be more needed I think.

Biggest Priority?
Shift out the leaches. Wimmer, Bauer, and Ince are taking around £80,000 a week out the football club between them and doing nothing for it. If we can remove them somehow and replace them with one or two quality loans then it would make a huge difference to our options.

Ben Pearson.
Not everyone’s cup of tea, but a nasty twat who can sit in front of the back four, tackle, and use the ball well would be a godsend.

Our manager is a huge admirer of Joe Rothwell at Blackburn Rovers. I gather he’s out of contract in the summer.

A proper DM, it would free up the other midfielder to push forward more and would solve a couple of problems.

I think a dose of reality is required for some people, there will be no ingoings save for a loan or two maybe unless we continue to ship out those earning not insignificant salaries (Wimmer and Bauer most notably, but also the likes of Ince and possibly Vokes and Gregory)
The key this season is to be patient with the manager and the players we have at our disposal, once the likes of Allen, Verlinden and Shawcross are (hopefully) back in the fold it gives us more options, but the 20 odd players we have now will be the ones seeing it through until May I have no doubt.
If there is a genuine, athletic DM out there available to loan then that would be the position for me if we could only bring in one player.....
