I'm pretty sure he played #9 in the reserves for a while. I remember The Daily Mail doing a piece on our youngsters and tipping Dave McAughtrie as the one to watch. I think a player called Ford also but can't remember him Steve Ford? Hes on the 82/83 team poster. Dont think he played many games My one memory of McAughtrie is him hauling Brian Stein down at the end of the Luton 4-4 game for the penno that they missed

Just feels like a WWE tag team with those pair up top. Like watching Kane and The Undertaker, the brothers of destruction Feels like more Andre the giant and The big show to me.

David Moss was deadly from the spot as well

That Luton game was probably the best I’ve seen as a spectacle. How their guy didn’t score I’ll never know. Think he hit the post, with Derek Parkin (our right back/stand-in goalie) just stood and watched. McAughtrie wouldn’t have had to give a penalty away if Berry (I think?) had succeeded in his earlier attempt to hack the Luton player down.

A few defensive calamities that day but defenders on the score sheet. Berry got 2 and Malachy Donaghy scored for them. Paul Walsh was excellent. Didn't Cloughie jokingly predict would be 10 goals n it the week before?

Your comments re Steve Bould To be fair, he was bang average at right back and thats being polite. Mills moved him to CH and the rest is history Check his age and how many games he played professionally when he was “bang average” I must have had a crystal ball

People saying he’s a good pro.
He’s overweight and unfit.
How the fuck is that being a good pro?

Admittedly we didn’t play to his strength, however he didn’t show any strengths either. Awful player for Stoke Steve Bould was an awful player for stoke until we played him in his proper position....the rest is history. Steve Bould, at nearly 60, would be a better option up front than Sam Vokes.

He just hasn’t got the physical attributes to be a professional footballer anymore. Maybe but the effort to move just isn’t there is it? And fat as ever is harsh when it comes to pros now but he’s definitely heavier than he should be. And if you’re knackered, adapt. He could do a lot more to be useful than he does.

Anyone knoww much money we're asking for?
Option A: we've spent all season accrediting tyrese Campbells goals as "Vokes" in the hope that the media circle his deadly finishing. And we make 12mil?
Option B: Option A didn't work and we are paying his contract up and buying him a 1 bedroom granny Annex in Wycombe as a sweetener?

I’m not sure it was a lack of effort last season, he was close to scoring on quite a few occasions but obviously it didn’t happen and he genuinely looked gutted every time he had a near miss. I have no issue with Vokes, we didn’t play to his strengths and his legs are probably gone, in a Pulis team he might’ve been useful even with his legs gone if we were launching a load of balls into the box, but he doesn’t fit in the way we are trying to play and his best days are long gone. I wouldn’t begrudge him finding his form in league one and reviving his career, it is clear his Stoke career is over but I don’t think it is due to a lack of effort, it was just the wrong move for him and another expensive flop for us.

Sounds like a loan, but his contract is up at end of the season, so we’re done with him 👌🏻

We'll agree to disagree. I just don't think he's looked the slightest bit arsed since he got here tbh.

Up until recently, I'd have said that Steve Bould at right back was probably the worst player I've ever seen in a Stoke shirt. The transformation when he was moved to centre half was crazy. Great player for us in that position.

One other memory was the linesman giving a throw against us by the Butler Street stand, where I was, after a McAughtrie tackle and the relatively benign looking McA staring at him and suddenly releasing the longest torrent of abuse without taking a breath that I think I have ever heard
