I had a good instinct about this season and week by week I'm checking points wise v our promotion season. After 12 games that season we had 20 points, scored 19 against 16. So we are 1 point ahead. Also after 17 games that year we had 24 points and we are on 21 already. Fingers crossed 🙏 In other news after 12 games last season sitting in 7th place on 21 points just like we are today, were Charlton Athletic.BM I'd say this season's Reading FC are a better comparison with last season's Charlton than Stoke.
And whatever you might think eg about your Chief Exec, Bowyer was trying to get results in the midst of a complete and utter shambles in the Boardroom (still not resolved, btw).

Let’s hope we are still ahead of TP and closing the gap on Durban.

We're going to be there or there abouts.
We aren't good enough to win every game.
We aren't in a relegation fight for once.

Absolutely no nails left march but it's been a long time since we could be three nil down and until the final whistle believe we could still get a equaliser or go on to win it with only twenty minutes left. With this manager I do think we have a gem.

Last season to make the top 2 you needed an average of 1.8 points per game and 1.5 to make the playoffs. Stoke are averaging 1.6 so are on track to be there or thereabouts

I was thinking of a side made from the two sets of players and there’s some horrible decisions up front. But I honestly think I’d go with Fletcher and Campbell over Mama and Fuller. Imho there wouldn't be many of the present squad who would get in the 07/08 promotion side.Maybe Joe Allen and Campbell but TP's squad would beat todays squad easily.

You generally need to win half your games to finish in the top 4 positions. Not a hard and fast rule, but over the past 5 seasons only 3 or 4 teams each season achieved 23+ wins and they all finished top 5. Not all went up because it is possible to win 23+ then lose in the playoffs (Brentford last year).
This is the simplest way of measuring whether we’re on track. If we can maintain, roughly, a 50% win ratio then we will at least be in the playoffs at the end of the season.
What’s promising is that our run til now has been against tougher teams (in theory) and our upcoming run should theoretically be a little easier.
There’s no reason why we can’t be on 40+ points at the halfway point, sitting in the top 6.

Comparing our probable best eleven this season vs the Leicester promotion eleven: Nash vs Gunn GunnWilkinson vs Smith WilkinsonShawcross (07/08) vs Batth Shawcross and I completely bottled doing young Ryan vs young Souttar or Collins Cort vs Souttar SouttarDickinson vs Fox Erm...Fox I guessIf we then went with O'Neill's favoured 4-3-3, Delap, Whelan and Powell is better than any combination involving Thompson and Clucas. I'd maybe consider swapping Whelan for Mikel. A forward line of Fuller, Fletcher and Campbell would piss this tinpot league all on their own. In 4-4-1-1, I can't look beyond Mama and Ric as the forwards because of the unique level of work rate required by the Mama role. I reckon Pulis would love Mikel and Delap in the cage, with Lawrence and Powell on the wings. Powell would just about have the work rate and shithousery to pip Cresswell to the spot. 4-3-3: Gunn Wilkinson Shawcross Souttar Fox
Delap Whelan Powell Campbell Fletcher Fuller 4-4-1-1: Gunn Wilkinson Shawcross Souttar Fox
Lawrence Delap Mikel Powell
Sidibe
Fuller

It’s worth pointing out that there were several occasions in the 07/08 season that we were a shambles defensively aswell which seems to have been forgotten over time. We had Leon Cort at centre half, how could anyone forget?😂 Fanny of a defender.

Give me Delap and Whelan every day of the week over Allen. But if I was picking a side from the two, my midfield would be Delap and Mikel. Mikel is the best on the ball out of all them by a mile. He needs someone like Delap alongside him now. Who imo has been the best DM we’ve had (better than Whelan). The players from this current side are either keeper, Souttar, Mikel, Powell, Campbell and Fletcher. Shawcross 2007/08 gets in though.
