84 from the last 5 overs!! Think we got a bit over confident in the end thinking we could bowl anything and what the hell were those bits of paper the balcony were holding up trying to tell Morgan what to do? Don’t like that at all Maybe they were telling the bowlers to let South Africa set a tough target to challenge our batsmen. The chase turned on the failed run out by DeKock when Malan was yards out of his crease. For the first 10 overs of the game it looked like another pudding of a pitch but from about 10 overs into the South Africa innings it seemed to get a little quicker and easier to hit (dew/bit of drizzle?). Tremendous in the end by Malan & Buttler. (Bet there were plenty of people out there wingeing when Buttler took 7 balls to get off the mark. ) It is a shame that Rabada will be missing for the ODIs because he makes such a difference to the South Africa team when he plays.

Bit of pressure on Joe Denly now for his World Cup spot.
Resting him for this series could prove his undoing?
Malan excellent but missing that bit of leg-spin Denners brings to the table.
Tough squad to pick.

Well that was a tonic.
Needed because I got a text notifying me of a positive test result for coronavirus during the run chase.
Ah well.
C’est la vie!

First ODI tomorrow - and it’s tough (for me at least!) to figure out what England’s starting 11 should be noting how the absences of some players and the form issues of others affect the squad - most obviously the absence of a bona fide all rounder and Mo’s wretched form not to mention Roy’s ongoing problems.
Anyway, here’s one possibility...
Roy Bairstow Root Morgan Buttler Billings Woakes Stone Rashid Wood Topley
We will probably get away with Root as the second spinner. I’d rather have both Stone and Topley ahead of Curran as need our best bowlers without having Stokes take up any slack. And, because we are tail is (relatively) long we need a batsman at 6.
I guess they might look to include both Curran and Mo probably at the expense of Stone and Billings but that would be a big risk imo.

Today and tomorrow are, I think, the key days. If it’s going to be nasty, that is when it kicks in apparently. But today has been better than yesterday, which itself wasn’t too bad. So looking forward to a leisurely day watching the cricket. And hopefully looking forward to being released from self isolation early next week.

Good news👍🏻 I have a trip to the hospital myself in the morning to the kidney unit but back in time for cricket I hope then it’ll be a full day on the settee😀 Not sure who Moeen would come in for, probably one of the quicks as you’d still have five bowlers. Want to see Billings given another go, he’s a superb talent

Fucking great and to make my matters worse my Mrs has stayed at home cus she has COVID symptoms. What a shit day😟 Ah well. I think the entire series may be under threat. Speaking from personal experience, coronavirus is very contagious. If one player has it, there’s a good chance others will. Both my kids now have it. I imagine they got it from me. It helps explain why the Gvt is so concerned about transmission at home. Meaning, of course, if you’re missus has it, you probably won’t be far behind!

Oh bollocks, just turned on as I didn't realise it had been called off.
Once Covid starts affecting the cricket that's a game changer......

Couple of bits of cricket news relating to happenings down under... First... Tom Banton withdraws from Brisbane Heat team for Big Bash League over bio-bubble fatigue. Got to feel for this guy - spent the best part of 6 months in a bio-bubble but hardly played any cricket. Second... Concussion sub Yuzvendra Chahal shines in first T20. On one level, it is always a joy seeing the Aussies getting wound up, and Langer got his knickers in a twist over Chalal replacing Jadeja, but he may have a point. India certainly benefited from having Chahal bowling instead of Jadeja while getting the benefit of Jadeja batting. I can’t help feeling India pulled a fast one here noting Jadeja had picked up a leg injury before catching one on the helmet which didn’t stop him completing his innings. Protocols probably need tightening up here. I may be being unfair though, because Jadeja is now ruled out of the next two games but, that might be a compulsory thing. Smells fishy to me!

New Zealand hammered West Indies in the first test by an innings and a 100 odd I see. Williamson with another masterclass, 250 and The ever dependable Southee and Wagner ripped through the Windies batting......

Fuck.... first ODI called off due to hotel staff having tested positive.
That bio secure bubble looks like it’s got a leak.
I’d be surprised if any of the ODIs now take place.

This is turning into the worst weekend of my life🤦🏻♂️ No chance - can’t be that bad with a Stoke win. Even better a win over a mardarsing Colin. Plus it could be worse - at least you are not having to self-isolate. Anyway - there’s a T20 on BT sport

This is becoming silly, I don’t think they’ll have much choice but to abandon the tour and fly home.... Check out the T20 on BT sport if you can. A couple of fun moments... Steve Smith getting walloped in the box and surviving an LBW appeal that India decided to review. The bowler seemed to think the ball was on the way down. Not surprisingly the umpire got it tight first time. Matthew Wade’s dismissal. A wonderful comedy of errors. A chip to mid on, Kohli manages to drop a dolly that brings to mind Joe Denly, but then manages to run out Wade after Smith messes up the run. Meanwhile Australia going strong at 80 odd for two after 9 overs.

Denners would have taken the catch one handed and then immediately thrown the stumps down to run Smith out at the other end.
