Amazing! Last night I was worrying about how we could bat out the 5th day for a draw and today we have rolled them over and then knocked the runs off. Well batted by Sibley and Buttler. Absolutely. Hopefully that gives some confidence to Sibley - nice he got the winning runs. Buttler, after looking like a lost soul early last summer, is now looking the part with bat and gloves.

Well done, Dom, Warwickshire's finest Just what was needed, a rock like presence, staying in and slowly accumulating runs, precisely what we'll need in India. Here's a stat: Sri Lanka 0 - 5 England, last two series...impressive stuff!

Next England date is a week on Friday with the first test against India. Kick off 4.00 am for you dedicated early birds.
Starting tomorrow though is South Africa’s first test in Pakistan since 2007. Live on Sky Sports.
Great to see Pakistan playing home international cricket at home. Let’s hope we get to see England touring their soon.

Announced today that we’ll be playing New Zealand in a two match test series at Lords and Edgbaston in June.
Seems like we hardly ever play New Zealand at home so looking forward to that one.
New Zealand almost certain to be playing in the test championship final in July so it will be good preparation for them.

It's going to be even better when India and Pakistan agree to tour each other again. After so long the atmosphere is going to be unbelievable.

Great to see cricket back in Pakistan, they're currently ripping through the SA batting line up and look like they could be back with a victory, long way to go yet but 220 all out after winning the toss isn't wonderful.......

Impressive bowling from Pakistan with plenty of turn on offer. Not sure what South Africa’s spin bowling stocks are like at the moment.

Fairly average on paper, in fairness their pace attack has bags of potential. EDIT Rabada gets a wicket right on cue......

Literally just about to post this! Absolutely awesome to see cricket being played in this beautiful country. Such great cricket people too. Bit fucked off our tour this year is just a couple of t20 games, was hoping for a full test series. 😖 Bizarre that Babar Azam hasn't scored a century in front of his home fans yet. Or has he?

Thought I saw a stat earlier that said he’d scored 3 hundreds in a row in Pakistan in tests. I could be mistaken, it was early.

Oh yeah cos I think they hosted Sri Lanka or Bangladesh fairly recently right? I assume that's where he got his centuries.

Two against Sri Lanka in Kiratchi and one against Bangladesh in Rawalpindi

Pakistan in a strong position with a lead of 88 and two wickets left after a spot of tail wagging. Looks like their long winning streak at Kirachi is set to continue.

I thought this article on ESPNCRICINFO was worth a read... England's attitude towards the IPL won't please everyone. But what is the alternative?Basically it says that we have to accept some disruption to our international side if we allow players to take part in the IPL. I’m in agreement. I remember when KP was criticised for being the first English player to play in it and how this harmed England’s prospects. But the reality is, IMO, participation in the tournament has been a huge benefit for our top players.

The dark days of our players being left behind are long gone and the commentators on Big Bash the other day were saying how impressive all the English players have been and how they’ve brought a new dimension to the tournament.

First test now a week away, I guess it’s not to early to start playing “guess the starting 11”.
Sibley Burns Crawley Root Stokes Buttler Woakes Bess Archer Leach Broad
They may go for Ali ahead of Woakes if the pitch looks like it will be a raging turner, but I suspect Woakes will get the nod because Mo can’t be trusted with bat or ball these days. Plus, if the wicket does turn, they may well feel Bess and Leach have shown they can do the business in the two second innings in Sri Lanka. Mo’s role is really a back up rather than 3rd spinner.
The only other possibility is they retain Anderson, but I’m sure they’ve decided to alternate him and Broad for these winter tests so Broady returns.

I think the Indian test series will be close one, either side winning the series by one test. 3-2 or 2-1.

Looks like there’s murmurs about Pope being ready and I think England may want to lengthen the batting order. Burns Sibley Crawley Root Stokes Pope/Buttler Buttler/Moeen Moeen/Woakes Archer Broad Leach Basically thinking itll be between Pope and Woakes. Think 3 spinners is out of the question for the first test. I’d have Leach in front of Bess for the left arm variation.

No need for a third seamer with the return of Stokes. So we have a place to play with which you’d imagine, as you say, we’d look to shore up the batting so probably Lawrence or Pope if fit instead of Woakes. I don’t see Mo getting the nod ahead of Bess though.

I guess if you’re playing an extra bat then Moeens batting “prowess” becomes less of a necessity and Bess obviously has played more cricket so should have some rhythm now. Also Bess can hold a bat as shown against Sri Lanka. I just have a feeling Root and co will be itching to get Moeen into the side🤔

Anyone else a little disappointed the Pakistan and Bangladesh series next winter are just a couple of t20s (Pak) and 3 odis (Ban). I get it that a big series in the Windies will bring in the tourism coin but we should be doing full test series in both the above in my opinion. Cricket is religion out there, attendances from home support will be strong and they deserve it.
😖
That said - flights to Barbados booked 🤭

They’ve only just announced the New Zealand series so I imagine talks are ongoing. I do like a Pakistan away series I must say
