Annnnnnnd...... In one day he’s overtaken Boycott, Pietersen and Gower in the all time England run stakes, all in far less games. Alex Stewart next!

One of the saddest sights in sport is watching a great player struggling. It has therefore been absolutely brilliant to see Joe Root re-discover his mojo. At the moment he appears to be playing a completely different game on a different pitch to the other 21 players. Long may it continue!

He’ll almost certainly go close to overtaking Cook to be our highest ever run scorer. It’s never an easy ride supporting the England test side but how lucky we all are to have been around in an era where our two greatest batsmen and two greatest bowlers have been playing.

England in the driving seat. But we don't want to be chasing more than 150. Make that 130,I forgot Crawley & Sibley are opening.

Quite a spectacular implosion by Sri Lanka.
Still going to be a tricky chase but we’ve given ourselves an excellent chance.

Sri Lanka digging in, this could be a tricky run chase.

Any chance of Wood being used to blast them out? Must be worth a go because we're increasingly moving back into a losing position.

Scratch what I said, Root knows best .. well, this should be interesting.

Shame about that 9th wicket partnership but England would have killed for that at the start of the day. A massive test and be interesting to see if anyone steps up instead of/to support Root. Going to be a thriller.....

Hope Root was in the Nets, showing the Batsmen how to bat against spin.

So far so good, we’ve had the rub of the green with some of these umpires decisions and reviews mind.....

So far so good, we’ve had the rub of the green with some of these umpires decisions and reviews mind..... Not this time Bairstow was going to get done eventually, shame he couldn’t have forced another 20/30 runs first.....

I thought Bairstow was a bit frantic - the sort of batting you deploy on a raging turner when it’s only a question of time before you get done.
But I don’t think this is that situation. The wicket looks not too bad and Sri Lanka’s bowlers not that threatening; Embuldeniya looks, not too surprisingly, a little tired.
I’d rather he’d approached this as a normal innings.
Anyway, we look very well placed.
Btw - Sri Lanka must be kicking themselves. A terrible second innings has undone all their previous good work. Instead of England facing down a daunting challenge on a 5th day wicket, they’ve given us an eminently gettable score on day 4.

Bollocks Root has gone that could be massive.
He wasn't looking as slick this innings, he's still looks fatigued.......

Think there's a bit left in this yet, we lost three wickets when we were chasing 70 odd last time...

It's all going pear shaped.
Does Buttler go into one day mode to try and put it to bed or do we trundle along?

If Buttler goes early we've got no chance. Our tail is as long as it gets for us.

If Buttler goes early we've got no chance. Our tail is as long as it gets for us. If we get within 25/30 of the target Curran and Wood can despatch a few quick boundaries but other than that we'll be knackered......

Sibley needs to be the rock here. If he stays in to the end or very close, he'll be forgiven for his failure so far...lost of pressure on an inexperienced Test batsman...

This is all set up for Jimmy to knock a six over long on to win the game and we all finally acknowledge him as the rightful King of England...

Amazing! Last night I was worrying about how we could bat out the 5th day for a draw and today we have rolled them over and then knocked the runs off. Well batted by Sibley and Buttler.
