Saw him in a pub on Portobello Road once.
I know, it's not a great anecdote, but as a teenage metal head it was a memorable moment.
As a perennial Division 2 band I always thought the Heep were one of the inspirations for Spinal Tap - massive in America, regarded with derision in UK.
RIP Ken.

I thought the very same thing but it's documented that their inspiration was drawn from the band Saxon, which seems less plausible to me. If you listen to the 'Stonehenge' from Spinal Tap, it's far more 'Gypsy' than it is 'Wheels of Steel' Watching some of their old videos on YouTube, I think it's kindest to say that Uriah Heep were very much 'of their time' That said, it's always a sad moment when you lose another link to your youth RIP Ken Hensley

Spot on. Although their songs were a bit artless and clunky they did have a distinctive style, you could always tell it was Uriah Heep, mostly because of Ken Hensley' mighty organ. Guitarist Mick Box has cropped up on a couple of 70s heavy rock retrospective programmes and always comes across as a decent bloke able to laugh at himself- he must have made a lot more success than the critics who derided Heep.

Saw in one of the Neil Peart obituaries that one of his favourite moments was first night Rush opened for Heep and standing in wings watchibg them play Stealin' and the crowd going mental and how he felt Rush might actually achieve those heights. Great story about meeting Ken
