I haven't actually seen any of the new ones thanks to them being on Britbox, but first impressions looking at the puppets is that they've over-exaggerated the features too much.
In the old Spitting Image, the puppets were deformed but in a way not too far removed from the real people. In the new one, they've just made them too weird.
There was a show in the mid-noughties called 2DTV, and that was basically Spitting Image in animated form and very funny.
