Know what you mean. My dog wont even go out to relieve himself. Everytime I open the back door ,one goes off and he's back in sharpish shaking like,well.....a shitting dog.

Clay pigeon shooting here every Sunday and Gnasher's a nervous wreck. I don't think he's fully recovered from that 4 day thunderstorm we had

Everyone who's commenting can honestly say that they never did the same thing when they were younger?? No I didn’t. Never liked Halloween or bonfire night. Total waste of time and abused by idiots throwing fireworks and eggs.

I have no problem with fireworks. Not that I myself have been anywhere near them for about fifteen years. People have just gone through a shitty lockdown and are entering another one.. If people want to have an outdoor get-together before the next lockdown bites, an early Bonfire Night seems a good enough excuse to me. And I do have a dog, plus a puppy we’re fostering, and we have acclimatised both of them to the bangs.

Call me cynical but I doubt that the people letting off fireworks will adhere to the lockdown rules.

During bonfire night, we took our dog out when he was young and played with him in the garden, lots of games with high reward treats to distract him (Easy enough as he is a greedy Lab). Did the same with this Springer puppy, but this was easier because there was an older dog who was obviously not bothered by the fireworks, so we didn’t need the treats, just the games. He’s not de-sensitised to sudden noises, though. He still reacts to anything untoward - except fireworks. We have to be careful with the puppy, as he’s due to return for training as a search/sniffer dog; our role is purely to socialise him before he returns to his owner. if your dog is beyond adolescent, it might need a different strategy. TBH my wife is the dog whisperer; I’m just the water carrier!

TBH my wife is the dog whisperer; I’m just the water carrier! He's a 13 month old cocker spaniel (worker) who is scared of his own shadow. Tried the treats and games in the living room whilst they were going off and it looked like it was working. Took him out last night whilst it was quiet in the garden for the toilet, one went off suddenly and he bolted back in the house. One step forward, ten backwards.

Apparently it’s nothing we wouldn’t have done as kids. I beg to differ.
