There is certainly much to be optimistic about this morning and Stoke fans are generally positive at the moment.
If circumstances had been different and we had perhaps gone on to beat Barnsley, those two extra points would have put us in the top 6 today. However if we were able to consolidate a position amongst the promotion challengers that must create its own pressures, as we then become a team to beat and a target for other clubs to go for. If clubs raise their games against us we will have a lot to think about, and this in turn represents a huge challenge to the young players in the squad and more pressure to perform. A good job perhaps that Alan Hansen isn't still a front line pundit making observations and judgements!
Interesting times certainly, but there is going to be such a lot to play for if the club continues to progress. It is still only recently that we we consistently featured in the relegation zone, and I fear that as a squad our confidence and team spirit may still be fragile and transient. We need a good 6 weeks or so leading to Christmas to focus our strategies and understanding and build our cohesion, resilience and strength.

Top 6 will be really close this year and I can see us being in and out of that part of the table as the season progresses. Being involved in a promotion campaign will benefit the players on long-term and help building that winning mentality that has been so absent these past years.
At the moment only Reading out of reach but i doubt that they will be in top 2 at end of the season and maybe not even in top 6. I think we have both the talent and experience to end up in top 6 but there will definatly be ups and downs during the season. Both for us and for our main rivals.
