My mum and dad brought up me and my 6 siblings on the dole so I know how itās like to live with that so fair play. Please donāt think Iām passing judgement on you as Iām not With the greatest of respect and all credit for you doing the right thing thatās over a Ā£20k take home pay after tax which there will be working people on similar take home incomes who get no help with school meals, uniforms, housing benefit, council tax benefit etc I dont know what the answer is but as you say they send you free meal vouchers you did not need The govt say they have made changes to UC and council funding to accommodate then you have the headlines. We have now. There is no easy answer. Kids shouldnāt starve and I appreciate all family situations are different but If there more like yours the situation would be a lot better. no offence taken, I agree, I've told em I don't need fsm, they give it me anyway. I know people working who need fsm much more, beurocracy is to blame. Our whole system needs simplifying and making fairer. Fair play to you. I have to say though doing the maths of your UC income v expenditure the disposable income you have access to is the exception not the norm. Iām involved in a couple of charities in Manchester and there are families literally with Ā£20/Ā£30 left to their name once rent is taken into account......

I have to help my ex with food and she works. It's criminal, she can't get a council tax reduction or any other help. There's more working families struggling near me, I feel guilty. The system just isn't fair, if you work and claim UC, you will be struggling, if like me you can't work, you're in the best possible position at this time.

Go the whole hog and include weekends too I had wondered why kids dont go hungry at weekends only in the week but didn't want to question it because obviously there are only two positions you either want kids to starve or you are a good person.

Keep thinking about it and I'm sure you'll get there eventually.

I don't disagree with much of this but what really grinds my gears and needs addressing is the sign I saw posted when I was shopping this week.
On the Covid screen at each till is a sticker saying "School meal vouchers cannot be exchanged for alcohol." Absolutely ridiculous situation.

It certainly is ridiculous...what if your kids are alcohol-dependent? Mine certainly are. Yet more short-sighted measures from this woeful government.
