Re the argument about best ever players I think it's fair to say Pele was the best ever out and out central striker. Closely followed by our very own world class player Dave Kiotson.

Hard to compare generations, admittedly, but I always saw Muller as a pure poacher, whereas Ronaldo could do it all. Strong, quick, could score from absolutely anywhere. Every bit the phenomenon his nickname suggested.

Pele was a freak of nature, the complete striker but with the brain and vision of a central midfielder, why after 50 years are we still entertained by grainy clips of him throwing the goalie a dummy or his attempt at goal from the halfway line ? Why do we still say that Banks save was the greatest, because it was against Pele and he never missed ! Pele is and will always be the greatest, just like Ali is in boxing they are icons of time.

Re the argument about best ever players I think it's fair to say Pele was the best ever out and out central striker. Ferenc Puskás. Posted it before but great story: There really is only one place to start when discussing Ferenc Puskas – with possibly the greatest anecdote in the game’s history. “I was with Bobby Charlton, Denis Law and Puskas, coaching in a football academy in Australia,” George Best once recalled. “The youngsters we were coaching did not respect Puskas, making fun of his weight and age, so he decided to try and hit the crossbar ten times in a row with a shot. “Law asked the kids how many they thought Puskas would get out of ten. Most said less than five. Best said ten. Puskas stepped up and hit nine in a row. For the tenth shot he scooped the ball in the air, bounced it off both shoulders and his head, and then flicked it over with his heel and cannoned the ball off the crossbar on the volley. They all stood in silence and then one kid asked who he was. I replied, ‘To you, his name is Mr. Puskas.'” Wonderful www.football365.com/news/portrait-of-an-icon-ferenc-puskas

On the subject of Pele, there is a fund raiser in the name of one of his greatest nemesis (es)? the legendary Gordon Banks, this weekend, in aid of Douglas Macmillan Hospice

He’s still probably adding to his goal tally with ones in the garden against his grandkids.
All this commotion about brexit and coronavirus was just to distract everyone while Pele sneaked a few more goals onto his record.
