Agree with all of that. You have to play a left footer on the left of the 3 imo so Fox has to play there if we do it. That back 3 at the end of your post is the best one we have by some distance too imo. I think a back 4 would suit everyone more though. I’d much prefer a back for too. But we still really don’t have a decent left back, except possibly Tymon. That then leaves the question of what formation we would play in front of them: 4-3-3 Smith Batth Sutar Tymon Powell Mikkel Clucas Campbell Fletcher Brown 4-2-3-1 Smith Batth Sutar Tymon Mikkel Clucas Oakley-Booth Powell Brown Fletcher 4-4-2 Smith Batth Sutar Tymon Oakley-Booth Powell Mikkel Clucas Campbell Fletcher some of the players will have to be rotated for rest and/or injuries. what do you think? Edit replace fox with Smith. Brain fart I think Fox is a decent left back. He's just not a wingback, which is how we've tried to use him. Limited going forward but strong defensively.

He's played in that position twice and been solid if unspectacular. He's been here two minutes and played in three different positions. What is it with Stoke fans and writing players off? Bruno has one decent game and now we can't do without him. In reality he's been average at best for years.

I think Fox is a decent left back. He's just not a wingback, which is how we've tried to use him. Limited going forward but strong defensively. Even worse is Fox as a centre back!! If we play Fox at left back we have to rotate Clucas and Tymon. That may be necessary to rest players or replace them if/when they get injured. All that is a bit academic because MON has decided to use 3 at the back as plan A. It is important that the whole squad understands the basic philosophy and the primary formation, so they can practice it week in and week out and everyone knows what’s expected of them. That’s the basic philosophy at all successful clubs (Man City being a great example). The same formation and style is played at every level from the youngest academy team to the first team. That makes it much easier for the youth players to progress through the system because they know where to fit in. There’s no reason Stoke can’t do this on a smaller scale.

One of the best signings we've made in a good while, looks a class above Vokes and Gregory, long may it continue. I do keep having Frank Worthington flashbacks tho.

In what way has he been worse? Can see the issue with lack of attacking play when playing LWB. Fail to see how this translates to playing in a back three? He's been sound defensively. Keen to see him play left back in a back four with MacLean/Tymon/Verlinden in front of him. Otherwise playing in a back three he can carry on keeping those clean sheets Same goes for Batth and Chester

Bloody love this bit of play from SF on Saturday. Brentford casually playing the ball out from the back, when SF sticks out a leg, puts Janelt on his head, flips the pitch control Voronois and we're off in the opposite direction. Epic! Attachment Deleted

So do we go Vokes - or Campbell/Brown down the middle?
Wonder what "foreseeable future" means.
2 weeks?
3?

It’s like when Wenger always used to put out his most physical side at the Brit to try to out-Stoke us, while the players he left out had enough quality to run rings around us, which they usually did at the Emirates.

I get your point but I'm not sure we have many players who can run rings around anyone! (Campbell being the exception!) It's a massive blow re: Fletcher but this was always going to be the case, he has a history of injuries.

Unless he’s got a history of smashing himself into the advertising boards.

The older you get the longer it takes to recover, the contact in this case was with boards and not with a boot.A swollen knee is a swollen knee irrespective of how the impact occurred.

So do we go Vokes - or Campbell/Brown down the middle? Wonder what "foreseeable future" means. 2 weeks? 3? Vokes - no, no, no and fucking no. How many bloody times do we have to try this wardrobe upfront - he has no positive attributes whatsoever - can't run, can't boss defenders, slows the game down. Vokes is a complete busted flush. If Vokes plays we do not win the game. It's got to be Campbell and Brown as a front 2 - problem is this also moves Campbell out of his best position Got to go Bursik Collins Chester (because there's noone else), Batth Fox Clucas Cousins (if Obi out) McClean Powell Brown Campbell While Fletcher is out I would be surprised if we get more than an average of 1 point per game. These injuries are really starting to screw us over.

Can we get an emergency striker in? Given that Vokes is basically useless.
Terrible news for our playoff hopes. Come back soon Gletch!

Brown can too and is quick, but he needs the ball played to him right, and despite being the manager's record signing he does not appear to trust him fully yet.
