Don't think trams would work in Stoke due to the shape and size of the city. Stoke to Hanley and Newcastle maybe would be OK. Are trams really that good anyway,?? Would be betterpputting the money into electric buses and making them more appealing to the people. Opening train lines to Leek and Uttoxeter, Suspended monorail wouldbe the way to go We already have a train line to uttoxeter?? Or do you mean via leek, oakamoor and alton towers. ?? Yes, those places and the likes of Blythe Bridge, Cheadle, Alton Towers, JCB plants, parking areas (underground or multi storey) at the stations, etc

Last month they were talking about reintroducing the train line to Leek too.

I remember when Blackpool used to have trams. It's a shame they replaced them for a monorail, it feels like something is missing there now.... it's still a shit hole so not everything has changed.

I was quite disappointed by it to be honest, when I took the kids when they were younger to see the trams all we saw was the new fancy ones and it ruined the experience if I'm honest. It's good to hear that they are still running the older ones, I just never saw them when I went.

I volunteer on the old vintage trams when I can, conductor are present although hoping to learn to drive one once Covid has disappeared. We are still running most days thru till Christmas. You can’t walk onto one sadly anymore everything g has to be pre booked.

Has anyone seen the High Street in Tunstall following a mains water burst they dug the road up and found the old tram lines still there. Brush them off and save a fortune.

One of my earliest memories is of workmen getting up the old tramlines on one of the roads just outside Hanley. It must have been in 1946. One of my friends has in his possession a short piece of the old tramlines from Stoke.

Wrote to Stoke Council recently about the reintroduction of trams, had a reasonable reply! Let’s see if BoJo is serious about levelling up!!

I merely suggested we lock into the ‘level up’ grants and reintroduce a tram from Goldenhill industrial park North through burslem festival park Hanley Stoke rail then bet365/Trentham Lakes. Response was they’re looking into multiple options of improving the city?

Response was they’re looking into multiple options of improving the city? which will probably mean they are going to employ another road sweeper and litter picker operative

This city is absolutely skint isn’t it?
There’s no point getting a tram from a closed town centre to another closed town centre .

I don't know how they can say they are levelling up ever, when they continuously cut the councils budget. So in the governments words we take money from you give it you back and call it levelling up.

I saw this the other day and thought it looked pretty bob on. Shows what we could do if the government gave us a chance. And it would make money overtime like Sheffield/Coventry etc so not like it’s a one off investment

I think it looks cool and is exactly the sort of thing seen in many (smaller) European cities. Wouldn’t it be epic if John Caudwell (£1 billion) and Coates family (£4 billion) could be persuaded to part with just 5% of their money (£250 million) to leave a lasting local legacy long after they’re gone? Who has the contacts with them to get the ball rolling?!!

You can get a train from Stafford to Stoke that will stop at Stone, Barlaston, Trentham and The Brit? Or a train to Baldwin's Gate and Silverdale terminating at Newcastle. I love the idea but I can't see that ever happening.

If that's the level of design develoment effort then I have complete faith in the city council to deliver this megaproject on time and under budget. 😉
