Public Service Broadcasting a few years ago. Never heard of them but popped along to see them at festival once. Really enjoyed it.
Spitfire and Everest are great tracks. 'The race for space' album I really liked but not some much the latest stuff.

I kind of assumed it was all pre-recorded a la Orbital, with not much to see beyond a light show? Big fan of Orbital, so no criticism implied there...!

I used to know a couple of doormen at the Viccy Hall so luckily (most of the time anyway!) got to see a few gigs I wouldn't normally have seen. Nazareth Showaddywaddy Smokie Are the ones that spring to mind first, Showaddywaddy gig is memorable in particular, my mate that I went with turned out to be absolutely brilliant at "jiving", I left him to it

The Bootleg Beatles.
Not really a fan of tribute acts generally, as I think doing your own thing has more 'value', and I was a bit underwhelmed by the wife's suggestion to go along, but she was right, this was a fantastic night out I have to say.

I was pressganged in to taking the Mrs & our two daughters to see Lady Gaga at Twickenham a few years ago. Much against my expectations, she put on a superb show which I really enjoyed.
Saw Robbie Williams (avec wife & daughters (mine, not his!)) and was very underwhelmed, but he was supported by Olly Murs who put on a quite unexpectedly entertaining show.

As a student in c.1988, when booze and gigs were cheap and a huge number of bands used to include Leeds as a tour date, I went out on the lash and by accident ended up a few hours later seeing The Proclaimers at Leeds Metropolitan University (Leeds Poly in old money). They weren't anything like my usual goth fare at the time, but I vaguely remember there being a lot of Scottish football supporters attending and I thoroughly enjoyed it. All these years later, Sunshine On Leith still brings a lump to my throat.

The Jam at London arena as good as expected. Jools Holland and Rhythm and Blues Orchestra at Cambridge corn exchange. Wasn't expecting much it my Mrs idea. Very good, think the venue helped. Led Zeppelin at Knebworth ok but we were a long way back halfway up a field.

They are the revolver of Beatles tributes bands and put a lot of work into it with the costume changes reflecting the era and the sound is spot on I watched them with a full orchestra at the royal Albert hall about 20 years ago which was very apt and that part received a huge cheer

I've always found Jools Holland slightly irritating and I've never been able to put my finger on why, shame cos he had some good guests on his late show.

I played with a Beatles tribute band about 6 or 7 years ago. Was quite surreal as I utterly detest The Beatles. Was a venue in Singapore and may mate was the photographer for the venue, their bass player took ill and he mentioned that I played. They did what i later found out were John Lennon solo songs, had even less idea about them as arguably my least favorite person who ever graced the music scene but we got away with it I think. They didn't just fo Beatles songs thankfully although about 60% were.

I happened to catch Mogwai in a small tent at Reading 98, not thinking a great deal of them. They completely blew me away with their atmospheric (and very loud) stoner rock. Bit of a time and place thing, I’ve never though much of them after that either.

Some "filler" bands I've seen at various festivals that I wouldn't have normally gone out of my way to see and who put on a very good show include: Human League, ABC, Pendulum, Sugababes and Scissor Sisters. Actually went to see Human League in their own right a couple of years later and was still impressed.

Amazing showmen, but I liked Muse at school anyway so expected a good show. 1. Mumford & Sons 2. Modest Mouse 3. The Killers 4. Florence & the Machine 5. The Struts 1-4 got sunset slots at festivals and if it were my choice for massive party music I wouldn't pick them (except maybe Mr Brightside, gets people going). The Struts, I didn't know much about before and it was early in their career so they got on very early afternoon in a heatwave. They absolutely killed it.

Manic Street Preachers supported by Ian Brown at Nottingham arena in about 2000. Brown was absolutely gash but the Manics great. I was at this gig. If I remember correctly, someone threw a Brussel sprout at everyone's favourite skunk-addled conspiracy theorist* and he kept ranting on about it between every fucking song like some kind of ****-chimp. Brown was indeed utter fucking gash (much like he has been each time I've seen him). *referring to Ian Brown, not Starkiller off of here

The feeling was just fuck off and let someone decent come on! Seen him another couple of times (under duress) and was equally as shite. Still the Manics were quality, did a lot of their earlier stuff which made it loads better. Also I think I only paid £10 for the ticket off a tout outside the arena.

Saw Metallica and later on, Tool at the BOK in Tulsa last year before Covid ended the world. Both way above my expectations. One of my favorite bands from "back in the day" Killing Joke opened up for Tool, they obviously could have easily been a standalone act themselves - what I underestimated from them was their pure power. And Tool blew us away, they were extremely tight and spot on. So I went to a Tool concert, came out with a Killing Joke shirt lol.
