Bit of a daft statement, can we have one thread that doesn't get politicised? I like soul, disco, funk, house (including the early Chicago stuff), drum and bass and UK garage- all of which had strong black influences. I like some 80s/90s US hip hop and R&B, but this new UK drill rap is fucking awful, and that's based on the music alone rather than the stories I've read about some drill rappers and drug dealing. Some groups just naturally gravitate to certain music genres more than others- I've never seen many black people at indie or rock nights for instance. One of my best mates is black and plays guitar in a band.. just saying I'd also argue drill music isn't rap/hip-hop either, it's shite, like the mumble rap phenomenon is. Like in any genre you'll get good and bad. I was referring more to the numerous posts stating rappers were talentless which I don't agree with. I'd suggest Kendrick Lamar has more talent in his backside than most of the acts I've seen mentioned. Jimi Hendrix π There's a few, of course there is, like there are some white rappers (to various degrees of success π)

It proves without doubt that the music which is most popular is definitely NOT the best music.. over the past 10/15 years in any case.

I'd struggle to tell you both the name of the artist AND the name of the song regarding current music. I'm doing well to get one of those.

black lace songs like βgang bangβ and βhave a screw (agadoo) are utter filth. becoming your own parody band is certainly not classy and truth be told βhave a screwβ is just kinda depressing compared to the original βagadooβ. smutty songs! marking the point when the kidβs party circuit obviously wasnβt bringing in enough dough, so they reached out to the raincoated degenerates. should be banned (angry face) You've just reminded me of that utter load of garbage "Star Trekking". I was at sea when it came out and we used to get videos sent out by the BFBS, one had the Top of the Pops programme on where it was number 1 and most of us on the ship were convinced it was some sort of elaborate wind up. Sadly it wasn't. good shout (thumbs up) how embarrassing is this

I'm being forced to watch this Little Mix series on the BBC. Two of them look like Herr Lipp from League of Gentlemen.

I'd like to see rappers with regular names, such Kevin Donaldson or Steven Fisher. And rather than rapping about county lines or shooting cops, they could sing about helping old ladies across the street, or returning library books on time. I'd listen to that.

It had a great hook.

Jazz sounds like people messing about Blues sounds like every song is the same. Both piss me off equally. Really? Both are at the very root of all modern popular music. Anyone who doesn't immediately start head nodding or foot tapping when the blues is played can't have a soul. Put Green Onions or Sweet Home Chicago or Hoochie Coochie Man on and try to stay still. It should be near impossible. I agree some jazz styles such as improv can be really hard work unless you've got a real ear for it but the likes of acid jazz or fusion is a lot more melodic and easier to "feel".

I'm not a big fan of jazz either but I agree that that and the blues are what started it all off, I think you've hit the nail on the head there with the improv stuff tho, I certainly don't have an ear for it. I like improv comedy, not so sure about music, went to a Van Morrison gig once and most of the gig was spent doing improv and it pissed me right off, I'd paid to hear his hits.

i think anyone who mixed70's style space aged music with sheep noises or any of the domesticated Artiodactyla species used to make me turn the radio off but over the years I realised that Adrian Munsey with help from Sparks kind of pulled it off. Was a kind of Giorgio Moroder with with a Caprinae Ovis meetsBovidae under current .Maybe over the year you come to appreciate certain styles more. Rap is still shite though

Cliff bl00dy Richard.
Cannot bear his smug, smarmy voice.
Did a hospital radio show with a mate for a few years. It was the Sunday evening god slot - quite how I ended up on that, I'm not sure, I'm not religious in any way. Anyway, my pal insisted on playing a Cliff Richard track on EVERY SINGLE BL33DING SHOW! Well, he knew it would get listening figures from the female pensioner wards.
I would excuse myself & nip out for a cancer stick each week whilst it was playing.
After many, many months of this, my pal actually wrote to Cliff & asked if he'd come to the studio & do a voice plug for the show/station. Never thinking he'd actually do that.
And fair play to Sir Smug, he did just that.
However, my mate thought I'd be civil and polite for the duration of his visit - and he was very wrong. I wandered in, late as usual, saw who was sat in my chair, said "Oh Christ, not you" and walked out again.
