I think both are going to play a big part in our future. Think both will prove to be very shrewd purchases. Thompson in particular I think will thrive alongside the likes of Allen & Mikel..

For the first time in a long time we seem to be actually 'coaching' players to improve. Thompson in particular has improved massively.

Thompsonβs delivery is excellent. We seem to be seeing aspects in different players, for the first time in forever, that actually complement each other and work well when combined as a team.

I could never understand the criticism of Thompson in the first place. A young lad from the lower leagues lobbed into a relegation battle was never going to yield Pirlo-esque performances, especially in a struggling side.
Add onto that the need to approach transfers in a different way, after watching us fail time after time with over paid transfers that just didn't work, then I'm not sure what the angle ever was from some?
Even in the early days he struck me as a player that had a very good left foot and had the rare ability to change the pace of distribution in the change overs - a rare commodity in our squad and in modern football in general outside of the genuine top level elite players.

I thought Thompson was average at best last night tbh but then I thought the same of Mikel.
In the second half inparticular I thought the pair of them went missing.

I think they both represent great value for money and both have improved this season. Theyβre bound to be inconsistent but itβll come with experience. Good squad players and the way Powell and Clucas particularly have started the season itβs good to have these two to call on.

Hardly gave the ball away all night and possession has been our weakness for years. Massive upgrade on what weβve had for a while and happy to have it in tight spaces which also helps the defenders. Both getting better game by game

Tymon and Thompson was our best midfielders yesterday. Very good young signings. Powell was also good.

I thought Thompson was average at best last night tbh but then I thought the same of Mikel. In the second half inparticular I thought the pair of them went missing. I think that's harsh. We were playing against decent opposition last night and they were always going to press hard to get back in the game. We held our shape very well in that second half and that was through a major contribution from our midfielders.

Wow Their off the ball work was integral to keeping them out Ok easier to see live than on a stream but was repeatedly mentioned in commentary

As mentioned in another thread, I think we put a better team out last night than the opposition and that's not to take away anything from the result etc but to emphasise how good a side I think we potentially have. Mikel imo was all over the place and I wanted him subbed first but there wasn't the option on the bench. Thompson seemed to be me to doing his best Charlie Adam impression with trying passes that weren't on early and forward. I just don't think they played that well. They weren't horrendous but I gave both 5/10 on the player rating thread. Middle of the road stuff for me.

Haven't been a fan of Thompson to yet but thought he played well last night. TOB looks a proper player, I've been quiet about him up to now because I wanted to see a few appearances but he has all the potential to be a top player.

He's still got a long way to go before he's championship standard.
He's better when he's not playing so deep in the midfield 3.

Very different players but I hope you are right. Thompson looks like a real grafter - the sort of player other players appreciate and fans rarely notice or get. TOB has that bit of something different - a Marmite player who will look brilliant on his day and a bit of a luxury item on another. A good team needs both. Fingers crossed.

I agree with bayern, the midfield disappeared in the second half.
The defence were superb but at this club there should still be a level of expectation and certain players, those in midfield and attack, should have been doing more to take the pressure off the last twenty minutes. Thankfully we had absolutely superb performances from souttar, collins and Davies.those three have put in the best performances this season so far, by a long way

I think with Thompson, there is definitely a good player in there, but he is still developing and it will take time.
He shows (in glimpses) he's the kind of player that can dictate the play and get us ticking. Hes also got outstanding crossing, which shouldn't be underestimated. Possibly the best crosser at the club, and that will deliver goals.
Hes still a bit raw around the edges though, and he needs to keep improving and be more consistent.
Great option to have in the squad though.
Never understood all those who had already written him off.
