Still not convinced this fella's ready for first team football yet.
He's neat and tidy enough on the ball but doesn't seem to get involved enough. You never see him really looking to get on the ball or make a darting run to receive a pass- seems to drift through games like the invisible man at times.
There's enough there to suggest he might come good in the future, but I think a loan somewhere further down the leagues could be the making of him.

Shame he didn’t bury that decent chance he had. Seemed to play very conservatively after that.

You must have missed him tearing up the grass in the second half with a run from midfield. Surprised me how quick he was, not sure I’ve seen one of our players run as fast.

That 'shot' was certainly a wet weekend.
Buries that and he looks a different player.

Looks decent on the ball and keeps possession which is something we don’t do well when we need to. He often made out to play a one-two but almost always checked back and made himself available for a simple pass. Lack of confidence or following instructions.?

There’s too much paso g back likes been said and it started to piss me off last night but he’s got some tasty moves too....I reckon there’s a decent player there if he’s developed in the correct way.

What's wrong with passing it back and keeping the ball?

Looked alright to me. Probably about right that he’s getting game time in the cups and on the bench for league games

What's wrong with passing it back and keeping the ball? Come on Bayern, you know that unless every player is hitting 50yd killer passes, shooting on sight or taking 4 men on, there’s no place for them in the team.

Came from the right centre of midfield where he was playing and they don’t look that similar 😃

Who's going to keep Powell honest. He'll be fine here with few games under his belt.

Doesn't do alot, just lay offs, he looked like he might be a playere who could carry the ball, but shown little evvidence of it so far. Maybe it's because we do a great deal of aimless passing. People who complained about TP's football must be really enjoying this.

People who complained about TP's football must be really enjoying this. For the England youth sides he played as a deep midfielder that would build play and pass and pass and pass apparently. Absolutely nothing wrong with that, it won a World Cup afterall. What is it with the aversion to possession football on here? The same people will then whine that we can't control a game

What's wrong with passing it back and keeping the ball? Nothing but if that’s all you do when you are meant to be playing attacking midfield it will be difficult to win games. At some point you need to be good enough to take a risk. He is young and has time so he should go on loan and play in his natural position which is CDM

He's doing fine, young player
He should be looking at trying the forward pass more but that will come.

Improvement for players in the teen to 23 range is a combo of increased physical maturity (mostly helps defenders) & experience through game time at the level you want them to play at.
A midfielder's key performance indicators need more of the latter than the former and on average you start to see improved KPI's via matchday experience after around 700 mins of playing time per season.
TOB got just over 100 mins last season, so to start to reap any gains, you'd need to get him around eight full games this season (assuming his current playing level merits his inclusion).
Campbell got over 1600 league minutes in 2019/20. So he's well on his way to being a valued regular. But it's looking difficult to envisage the other youngsters getting a big chunk of minutes.
Which makes a cup run a welcome development alternative.

What's wrong with passing it back and keeping the ball? Nothing when theres no other option ,but he was in a good position quite a few times last night to move the ball forward......possession is great if youre actually doing something with it.

My spurs mate tells me he is more of a sitting midfielder rather than attacking mid.
He was very surprised spurs let him go as he was tipped as one for the future not long ago, he thinks Mourinho just didn't fancy him.

There is nothing wrong with passing the ball back and keeping possession. If you pass and move as TOB does then it can also create space. I thought him and Thompson looked good together and I was thinking what great young partnerships we are building - Souttar and Collins, TOB and Thompson and perhaps soon Brown and Campbell.

On the subject of keeping possession you could see last night that the Gillingham players were getting totally disheartened cos they couldn't get a touch on the ball. Usually at 1-0 I get worried the more the game goes on but I felt completely relaxed last night. It was a great display of possession football and if only we'd had more up front we would have carried a great threat too.
