Which is all of course true. Is this post part of the “constant drip”? Why do you want MON’s head? Is it constant?

Our most creative and skillful player by a country mile but not being played in his most effective position. I think just about every Stoke fan can see that, it's just a bit worrying our manager can't. And yes, Nick is a bit of a wuss....

He constantly gives the ball away with sloppy passes, I don’t think he’s played well in either game this year

His attitude, application and mentality are generally fine. He’s generally kicked to shit and not protected. He’s also being played out of position which is just daft. Play him higher up the pitch and get the ball to his feet on the half turn behind Fletcher. Bollocks. He was fucking shit today. Any position you play you should be able to pass the ball 5 yards to your own player. He couldn’t, he was shit. A very frustrating player

I must admit I've not bought the Powell dream.
He's not without ability but he seems very flaky.

He's been played left wing. He isn't a winger. He's been played central midfield. He isn't a central midfielder. He's a player who thrives off a front man and the way we played with Powell off Vokes with Campbell out wide last season got the best out of all three. We've now gone out and upgraded Vokes in Fletcher, added more power and pace out wide with Brown and added an experienced defensive midfielder to lock things up behind him and we've gone and lobbed the baby out with the bathwater by dropping Campbell, playing the power and pacey wide man through the middle and the lovely number ten we had in Powell, is now grinding away in a 3 man midfield for two wing backs that won't cross the halfway line. It's like when Hughes watched Diouf hit double figures, went out and bought Bojan to play behind him to help create more for him then dropped him before reinventing him as a right back. Honestly, I could weep. This needs a double like looker.
Spot on sir.

His attitude has been first class since he signed. He gets the shit kicked out of him game after game. No bayern, he goes down a little to easily, it's really not that difficult to see!!! However, so does everyone in todays football....god knows how many times Bristol went down with the slightest of touches, so I don't have a problem with Powell doing it myself!!! But today his play, and especially his passing were really sloppy!!! My problem with Powell today was more down to the manager playing him to deep in this new 3-5-2 formation, he was doing a lot of his work in centre mid!!!

Has everyone cleaned their pants out yet...
Jeez, Powell didn’t come up trumps this game - waste of space!?!?” “Never be a bojan”!?!? Wtf?!
The whole team had a bad game, get over it, lesson learnt, next game.
He is there to fill a gap, out of position, that should technically be a Allen/Etebo type player, he filled a ‘role’. Just because it wasn’t a ground breaking- game changing role then now Powell is poop?!
Need chill ya beans, sit back and enjoy the grind... it’s gonna be a long one but I’d prefer do it yahoo-ing than poo-pooing!!

Not fit to lace Bojan's boots. For all the moments Bojan gene me, I have so few from Nick Powell, and many of frustration. He has glimpses, but I fear the rumours of him not giving a crap about stoke could well be true. It's games like today that we need leaders and triers with talent, not just legs, did he offer either? What a bloody daft post!

I don't see things so black or white as some seem to do.
Powell is clearly our most talented footballer, but I do think there is an attitude problem. If things are going well he plays better, but if things aren't going well for him he loses the plot, tries improbable passes sending the ball to where he thinks someone should be rather than where they actually are. He loses his temper, plays for the foul instead of beating the man, etc. He will be a game winner for us one day and get sent off on another day. He needs careful management.
I agree he is being played too deep. This is because we are playing 5 at the back, reducing our MF and forward options. This situation is made worse by the fact that our FBs are lacking in creativity, pace, etc. to be genuine WBs. They are unable to get forward and back quick enough. It also means our MF players are further apart and become disconnected instead of playing as a unit.
Solution? I lack confidence in our CBs to only play 2 of them. We saw how they conceded two goals yesterday with 5 at the back. If we go to 2CBs then I think Chester and Indi need replacing with one of the young CBs playing with Batth or Shawcross. But I say that without any confidence. If we stay with 5 back then we need younger, pacey WBs. That poses a problem on the right; Brown would be wasted there.

Powell didn't have a good game, but I'd say he put more of a shift in than any other midfielder. If you watch highlights of the game you'll see on a few occasions he is on the edge of our box defending. He also does get kicked to pieces as has been said before. People expect more from Powell so when he doesn't reach the higher expectations people think he's worse than he is. What did Clucas do? Apart from almost assist them with a goal right at the beginning yet I bet people rated him higher. Also imagine comparing Bojan, who was playing with Arnie and Shaqiri, to Powell with Vokes infront of him. Good players also need good players around them, the lesser players will not read the game like they do. When they pass where they should have ran but haven't it makes them look bad.

I feel like he rarely stamps his claim on a game. He can be impactful for moments, but he’s rarely taken a game by the scruff of the neck for extended periods of time. He has more frequently been impactful by playing neat balls through to players in space and just filling the void between attack and defence, which he had no chance to do yesterday. We miss McClean bombing forward on the left (or Tymon) who can offer options rather than just hit and hope for Brown to latch onto.

He's a talented footballer and one hell of a mardarse. One of the reasons he gets battered on the pitch so much is because the opposition know he'll go down easy (which makes the ref less likely to award a foul) and either have a hissy fit or a sulk. He's a soft target who is is dead easy to bully out of the game.
If he just got up and cracked on concentrating on his own game he wouldn't get targeted so much and he'd be a far more effective player. He really hasn't done himself justice so far this season and if he doesn't realise his potential in the next couple of games he's looking at a stint on the bench.

Powell is our main player. Use him right and we’re a better outfit - simple as that. He didn’t have his best game today - but nobody did and he was not playing as number 9 (which he needs to). But make no mistake and don’t be fooled. He’s our best player and when he’s used right and his confidence is up - he’s a premier league player What’s a number 9

I've been consistently surprised about Powell's attitude.
Assumed before we signed him it was a bit shit. The typical royalty player who only works when he's got the ball. It's the complete opposite though. He works his fucking bollocks off in and out of possession.
He was poor yesterday and thought he had a poor game vs Millwall. He's not to blame though. He's not a central midfielder.
Playing him so deep removes the only creativity outlet in the team. Sort it out ffs.
