Most of these clubs have run out of money already, and are just existing on optimism.

I imagine lots further down the pyramid took advantage of furlough and have last seasons prize money fairly intact, once that’s gone it’s any bodies guess and it will be some very sad times ahead, not too knock or belittle our neighbours but with the amount of season tickets they sell usually with distancing I’m sure they could get most into the ground and won’t notice too much of a drop as the ground is large for a club of that size, for clubs with smaller grounds that have a higher percentage of occupancy it will be very bad, thinking outside the box maybe fan areas where games can be screened and beer and pies sold might be an idea maybe in a car park or drive in screen to watch the game, Jesus why am I putting this up I should be selling these ideas to clubs!

FIFA fair play will soon go out the window when a few clubs go belly up and we can spend again with gay abandon 😁

Must be very strange running a business which hires some of the highest paid people in the land and yet has zero income beyond a minimal TV deal and flogging a few hundred nylon sports shirts.
It's not sustainable.

The only way would be to have a ceiling re wages but the big clubs wouldn’t alllow it because they don’t care about the footballing pyramid or at least they won’t till only 10 clubs will be left plus amateur clubs.

A salary cap was voted for and introduced in league 1&2 back in August , talks continue at Championship level , believe our club is opposed to any formalised restriction www.efl.com/news/2020/august/squad-salary-caps-introduced-in-league-one-and-league-two/

Still, if you want bang average lazy arses then that's the price you have to pay.

My only concern would be you may as well get rid of promotion unless the PL follow which they won’t. If a miracle happened and a Long term PL team got relegated how could they deal with a salary cap.

I fear for the clubs in the bottom two divisions and non league. Like the Championship clubs, they normally depend largely on matchday income but, unlike many of the Championship clubs such as ourselves, they don't have mega rich owners.
On a connected matter - have the FFP rules been suspended yet? Unless they are I can't see many clubs outside the Premier League managing to avoid breaching them whilst covid restrictions apply. Mega rich owners don't matter much where FFP is concerned if you don't have Premier League income.

Believe FFP rules were relaxed in Mid June , allowing 2020 and 2021 to be consolidated and owners to more easily put money into the clubs , the terms of how that funding is provided and secured though maybe of concern at some clubs
UEFA have also recently launched a ‘Reimagine football’ campaign , which amongst other things looks at trying to keep fans engaged in the game whilst they can’t attend ‘The will they won’t they’ nature of trying to get back to watching live games is a major issues , fans turning their backs on the game in droves for others pursuits they have more ready control over , as they did in the 80s ( due at that time to FV ) is one of the biggest medium / long term issues facing the game
Of course there’s protecting the game and there’s protecting the gravy train

I understand your frustration, the only thing I would say is that we are in totally unprecedented times, and I don't really blame anyone for believing the range of opinions and feelings that they have. I'd say most people I speak to (whether teachers, nurses, kids, family) have quite diverse and different ways of seeing this and I'd say on reflection that most of them are sceptical about official figures and the the true nature of this virus, whether it be its origins or how it works etc, etc, etc. It's just a very confusing and disorientating situation for everyone I think. I think that is very understandable however disturbing that is. We have a cocktail of an actual deadly virus, at the same time being exposed to a deluge of news, fake news, counter news, facts, counter facts etc, out there being perpetuated from all angles. It's become almost impossible to know what is real news anymore and unfortunately it's not just conspiracy theorists who are perpetuating fake news, if it was it would more easily manageable. This is difficult for everyone. Anyway there are non-league games going on today with pay on the gate arrangements!!!

I’ve said this many times, I believe some supporters won’t come back, at least initially. Many people have turned their hand to doing other things at the weekend, and have no doubt had there heads turned by actually enjoying themselves on a Saturday (😆). We all know about the expense on a match day, so It’s also been a nice feeling to pocket the extra cash. Football can’t be complacent and expect fans to return at a drop of a hat.

I do not think people will completely turn their backs on football but the way they consume the product has I suspect already been permanently changed. I have found a lot of people are creatures of habit, attending football matches is a habit which the coronavirus restrictions will for some be the opportunity to break. People will have found other ways to fill their time and other uses for the extra cash in their pocket, football clubs are not going to find it easy to get people back into the habit of going and the longer these restrictions are in place the more difficult I suspect it will be. The increased use of streaming will prove an attractive proposition both for convenience and cost reasons particularly for families, one stream can be watched by a whole family rather than paying for multiple match tickets. I would expect reduced attendance levels which will impact on incomes from merchandising which become more critical the further down the pyramid you go and I would expect that what has just happened to Macclesfield will not be an isolated incident. As for a timescale who knows, the perceived wisdom is that all will be well once we get a vaccine which works, we had the same thoughts after SARS and we still have not got a vaccine for that virus despite the outbreak occurring in 2003.
