Although living a long way from England these days, I spend most of my time in Manchester when I am in the country.
I have history there, and used to live in Chorlton. The missus went to Uni there, we got married there and lived there for a couple of years before moving overseas. My youngest also lives in Manchester now, and has done for some time as he went through Uni at MMU.
I see one or two on here who mention connections there also. I just wondered how many of you, whereabouts you live if still there, and why Manchester?
I must admit that as a city it is a great place to be these days.

Prestwich (of course)
Moved for work initially - you get more for your money in the north than the south - and liked it so have stuck around ever since. Kids were all born here and have a good set of friends, in decent schools etc so happy to remain.

My Dads family were from Cheetham Hill and my Mums from Eccles. Grew up in Cheshire about 20 miles outside. Saw my first ever first division game at the old Maine Rd. I forget what I wanted when I walk into a room these days but can still remember the first time I walked into the stadium and saw that pitch. Also, bizarrely, the size of Mike Sumerbee’s legs.

Have spent a fair bit of time in and around South Manchester over the last couple of decades - Chorlton, Didsbury, Levenshulme, Fallowfield, Whalley Range.
A smashing city - big enough to be a proper city without being as overwhelming as London.

Work also took me to south Manchester (Stockport). If I could not get down to Stoke, I would watch Man.Utd. and Man. City on alternate Saturdays - In the days of Bobbie Charlton, George Best, Colin Bell and Frannie Lee. Going down to Stoke on the train it was interesting to see how many were wearing Stoke City scarves on one platform and those wearing United scarves on the opposite platform. I have also taught a few footballers sons and daughters (no names, no pack drill) but they all seemed a pretty decent bunch. I have also seen Manchester change from a bit of a dump in the 60's to the fabulous city it is now.

Went to uni in Manchester in 94, although it’s only small still think it’s one of the best city’s in the world, not the most beautiful but it’s creative output is second to none. Now living in Hale.
