Apart from being a good film title, how many of you on here are night shift workers? I'm on 7pm - 7am on a 7 on 7 off rota, a week off every other, happy days

Hats off to anyone that does nights mate.
Proper grafters.
I have a few people working for me that prefer it.

I love it to be honest, seems to go very quickly and I don't like people! lol but 7 on a trot is a bit much!

I work nights frequently and have done on and off for years. It’s weird how your body adapts as you get older. When I first started them I would go to bed in the morning and wake up late afternoon getting well over 8 hours kip. However, in the dead of night at 4 am I would be knackered and end up with dozing periods of 5 minutes every now and again. However now I am much older and in the middle aged bracket, I end up with a maximum of about 4 or 5 hours sleep after work, but I don’t get any tiredness at all and no need for dozing. I just assumed as I got older I would need more sleep. Overall I always find nights a bit of a novelty, but my biggest issues are a headache when I do wake up and during warm weather with your windows open, the neighbours mowing the lawn or the council digging up the road. One feeling you can’t beat though is climbing into bed on a winter morning when it’s lashing it down outside and the rest of the world is off to work while you cozy down and forget about life for a while.

Me. If you count being up half the night thinking to be inspired. I'm not a morning person. Normally.

I did various shifts for 30yrs in two jobs and after that time I'd had enough. At the time that was my life it it was fine but since I've finished it realised I missed so much, I missed my kids growing up etc and now my life is totally different for the better. So whatever you do plan for the end if you can, pensions are not the end of your life they are freedom.

Did it for 6 months many years ago. 10pm - 6am shifts
Having to stay sober & go to work just at the point your mates were getting sh1tfaced - not nice.
Getting home at 7am & going to the cafe down the road for a humungous fry up - bl0ody marvellous
Nipping to the bowling alley at 10am opening when it was empty & lanes were freshly oiled - superb. I beat my pb maybe 5 times in 6 months.
Overall not a great experience., though. The body never really adjusted to trying to sleep during daylight, especially when there was lots of noise in the street.
Hats off to those who do it on a regular basis.

In 90 mins I'll be 3 down 4 to go for this weeks shift, then a glorious 7 off! Just signed up to some overtime in Oct though so will mean 11 x 12 hour shifts on the bounce..... Think of the money! lol

When I was in the police we did a run of 7 nights with the last one finishing at 6am on the Monday, you then had a quick turn round and then back at work for a late turn at 2pm that same afternoon. Another late turn followed then an early then 2 days off assuming leave wasn't cancelled. Quick change overs happened twice a month. Came as a hell of a shock to the system and you never really got used to it.

Morale was ok you just lost track of which day of the week it was!. I used up most of my annual leave during the winter on Saturdays (occasionally) to play Hockey with mates back in Bedfordshire, at least it was a brief break from London.

I don't think the night shift would bother me too much, because I tend to find that left to my own devices for a while, I'll settle into a routine where I fall asleep at about 5 or 6 am and get up at dinnertime anyway.
The seven in a row would be horrific though, I wouldn't be able to stand not having a weekend at the same time as all my mates because of Stoke and the boozer.

I've always been somewhat of a night owl too tbh honest, I don't like people much so its good to be up when they're all asleep! haha On my current shift of 7 on 7 off, I can live without my weekends tbh as I'm off off a week every other, fits in perfectly with my fishing hobby

I used to do 4 night shifts in a row every other week 6pm-6am. This was hard because I struggle to sleep in the day. Now thankfully I’ve been given permanent days 6am-6pm

I used to do what was days, noons, nights, but ended up being whatever was needed plus overtime. Which was horrible as there was no routine, work with a few lads who prefer nights but now I’m on my third year of permanent 7.30 till four and I couldn’t go back to shifts.
