I wonder if BBC ALBA will be showing the Scotland game🤔 Could do with a good laugh!😀 Might be worth checking, as the Scotland game doesn't have the Sky Sports icon next to it on the app? It’s on Sky Sports Main Event

It's a complete disgrace that Sky Sports have got the England games. We should never have to pay to watch our national team compete in any sport. Last week's 20/20 game against Pakistan was the first England cricket game on BBC TV for over 20 years! Yes didn't a player take catch and the commentator say the last time bbc viewers saw a catch on bbc the guy that caught the ball wasn't born.

It's a fucking joke that the National team isn't aired live on terrestrial TV, especially when you take into account the many millions of public money that get shovelled into The FA. "The many millions of public money that get shovelled into The FA" hardly goes towards Harry Kane's match fee does it?
Rather it goes to kids coaches, grassroots football, women/girls, disabled, community, parks pitches and a whole lot more (from 2016): "The FA told us that it has received £7.5 million per year from Sport England over the past four years. It also receives £1.5 million a year for the FA Skills programme.
On top of that, the government puts £10 million into the organisation’s Facilities Fund and £8 million into the FA-led Parklife project. Finally, the FA receives £2 million a year for its coaching programmes.
All together, this adds up to about £29 million of government funding per year."
As against that, for the same year: "As football continues to grow, so does its economic impact – last season the Premier League [alone], UK’s top football league and its clubs contributed £3.36 billion to the nation’s GDP. Across the field, the total ecosystem of the League and clubs supports employment of more than 100,000 FTEs and added around £2.4 billion to UK Government coffers through tax receipts."
I know people don't like to think of it this way, but in terms of "industry", English football is a world leader - just like eg our shipbuilding, steel and car manufacturers were half a century ago or more.
Meaning the government/taxpayer does far better from football than the other way round.

I’d just like to take this opportunity to congratulate Scotland on a monumental performance on getting a point against a team ranked 40 places below them 😁

Glad to see Foden start and with the amount of goals we score from set pieces, Ward Prowse could prove to be a valuable player with his delivery... I'm not going to comment on Pickford.

He's good with his feet, good at penalties, experienced now, makes some great saves But makes far too many errors Nick Pope and/or Henderson should be given a go soon

Personally not a fan of the competition at all. I feel that the structure of it basically just serves as a back door to ensure the big nations don't miss out on qualification to major tournaments.
It's been sold to the public as a tournament to help smaller nations qualify for major tournaments but this isn't really the case in most circumstances.
The previous format which seen qualification determined by group stage performances served as a better opportunity for the nations outside the top 16.
To give you an example of what I mean. Iceland are in the playoffs through virtue of the other 11 teams in League A having already qualified. The Netherlands missed out on successive tournaments in 2016 and 2018 because of poor group performances, they didn't even get a playoff in either. Then nations league suddenly comes along and had the nations league existed in those years then NL would also have got a playoff.
By now adjusting the leagues to include 16 teams in League A from which most will likely qualify through regular tournament. This will basically help ensure the top 16 teams have the best opportunity. To give an example, had England lost every competitive game from the end of the 2018 WC till today, they'd still be in a playoff to reach the euro 2020 finals. Its a farce.
The change to 16 teams in each league also meant no teams could be relegated from League A after last season. Had the original 12 team format remained, Germany would of been in league b for this competition and not had such a good safety net.
Now moving forward the seedings will solely be determined by where you place in your league. I.E. Spain could finish 3rd in Nations League every year for next 5 campaigns but lose every competitive qualifier they play in that time but still be in the playoffs for finals for every single competition by virtue of being a "League A" club.
Another indirect benefit of the nations league is that these competitive games are worth higher value in the fifa world rankings which are used to determine seeds in major tournaments such as the world Cup.
By ensuring that the top teams are playing eachother it means that if they were to lose they wouldn't lose a great deal of points from their coefficient due to both teams being ranked closely. This is much more beneficial compared to the risk of losing alot of coefficient points from playing teams ranked lower.
Apologies for the big long rant and I understand that I've probably not examined alot of the above in the best way myself. It's very hard to put it down on paper especially when I haven't fully gathered all the facts myself.
I do 100 percent believe though that this competition benefits the stronger nations much more than the weaker nations. And its an insult to see it being sold everywhere as if its some great narrative which UEFA have come up with to help the weaker nations. I also find it very infuriating that no mainstream media outlets have actually looked into this in depth to realise that its just a farce to keep the popular "big nations" at the top.
It's just another safety net to ensure the biggest footballing nations reach as many major tournaments as possible. God forbid we have another world cup like 2018 where both Italy and the Netherlands missed out.
It's exactly the same in European club competitions too with all the coefficients and everything else and nations league England getting 7 odd teams in Europe at times where each club gets millions for each group stage match they play in. While the league winners of other smaller nations get to play in a few mucky mouse playoffs worth a few hundred grand.
It's all just an establishment to keep the big nations and the big clubs at the top. While the rest of us fight over the scraps. I'd love to see a breakdown of percentage of money rewarded per nation for European competition. And is it any wonder why these smaller nations can never progress too far or put up a challenge (unless a billionaire invester takes an interest which is rare for nations outside the big 6).
Sorry for the rant lads just wanted to get that all put down.

Would just like to add I've typed the above up on a whim on my phone. I've not proof read over it and it's probably very unstructured with some claims without alot of substance behind them. I do admit I've not looked into it all enough from a statistical point of view. But from what I read I do strongly believe thst the introduction of this competition will have strongly increased the chances of top 16 nations qualifying for major tournaments. I also made one claim about spain where I said they could remain in league A of they managed to place 3rd each competition while losing all other qualifiers and still get a playoff for each tournament. That claim isn't fully correct because hypothetically you could have a qualifier where none of the top 16 qualifier for a major tournament and thus Spain wouldn't get one of the playoffs. However if we were to look at the uefa rankings after each major tournament (when qualifier seeds are always determined) and list the top 16 EU teams. And then if we looked at how many qualified I think we would fine for most years 90 percent would qualify (again would need to be adjusted for years where less teams qualified for major tournaments for EU completions to make it a fair comparison) I'm so sorry for all my spam. Its just a topic in football which I feel isn't widely discussed and I've got quite strong opinions on it which don't seem to be widely spread. And nobody else really seems to discuss in depth. So I like to put my point across to give others a different perspective and hopefully invoke some though and debate

Just kidding, some interesting points there and I guess like everything else in football it is driven solely by money. But still I’ve enjoyed it and prefer not to think about the reasons behind it. It’s better than watching us play say Mexico or Cameroon on a winters evening.👍🏻

But again this all sort of relates back to benefits of being a highly ranked club and thus getting much easier qualifying groups where there isn't much competition.
In the fifa rankings I think you got 20 or 40 percent more points per game in major tournaments. So by virtue of qualifying you're guaranteed a pretty good seeding for the next competition due to the points you've accumulated.
And while I fully agree a form of seeding should take place. The contrast in points a team can gain from entering the major tournament compared to the team which says places 3rd in qualifiers is out of proportion and widens this gaps massively.
Essentially ensuring the same teams are always in the top 2 pots unless they somehow manage to fail to qualify for 3 or more successive tournaments whereby the points gained in previous tournaments are no longer of such high value.
And then of course the introduction of Nations League which provides an even bigger safety net now. To give a good example of how it has influenced seedings:
Wales - Qualified for last two major tournaments and reached SF of Euro 2016. In pot 2 with seed 19 (2 places from pot 3)
NL - Have not qualified for last 2 major tournaments but were given seed 3 based on winning nations league group. I'm pot 1.
Basically to summarize what I'm trying to say. The whole system created by uefa has been developed to make it very difficult for both clubs and countries to climb the rankings, while making it much easier for the larger nations and clubs to maintain their status quo at the top. It would really take a disastrous fall from grace over a prolonged period for any of the bigger nations to lose their advantage.
And all of the above isn't even taking into account all the other additional benefits which come with qualifying for major European club and country competitions. The financial gains being a major one which then further contributes to widening the gap.
