Serious question this?
Whatever anyone says and thinks, ... this country is in one heck of an almighty shitty mess at the minute. With inequality, corruption and political ineptitude rampant and a completely divided nation, the only real hope of a turnaround is from a Starmer-lead government, four years from now. That's likely to be far too late, however what else is there to grasp on to?
Before Coates returned to Stoke we were in a comparative mess to Britain, but in a relatively short space of time we were viable and the good times returned.
So, in the spirit of optimism and healthy discussion, Can Starmer do a Coates?

He'd have to win first 80+ seat majority to overturn swathes of Scottish Labour seats realistically lost for ever (or at least a very long time) it's a tall order
Tory MP's know this which is why we will see more & more scandals of all sorts of variety from them (even more than usual & yes I understand scandal applies to all parties) i.e. they feel invulnerable so will increasingly do whatever they fuck they want
Democracy in England imho has a crisis for the next generation
Tory party that doesn't give a shit who they upset & will increasingly get dodgier & dodgier, Labour opposition that probably can't win & Liberals that are almost dead in the water
+ the nut job parties
Not healthy is it?

I can see the similarities. Splash the cash and create a dream and when it crashes, it does so big style with the need to tighten the belt for years to come.

Yes but they also shit loads up the wall, please don't tell me they were fiscally frugal in power because they weren't.

Which is what we have to look forward to for years to come thanks to covid International banking crisis no? Caused by the reckless bankers aided by piss poor banking regulation, who gormless Gordon(ex chancellor of the exchequer) bailed out by selling off our gold reserves at fire sale prices plus shed loads of tax payers money that banking crisis no ? leaving nothing a note that proclaimed there was nothing left when they "left" office.

Starmer seems to be tip-toeing around in his opposition role at the minute, but this has to be a tactic!
He clearly needs to win over the media-owning oligarchs first, if he is to have the slightest chance of winning in 2024. With this in mind, he seems keen not to 'rock the boat' (whatever the f'ing boat is) ... and is biding his time before making his move (... just like Coates, when he returned to acquire Stoke City for the second time)!
The 80-seat majority could swing back to Labour when people realise that Brexit was a con, the NHS has been sold off and we have become in effect a very poor state of the USA.
For those people trying to remind the rest of the 'recent' failures of Labour in government ... Blair was to the right of Thatcher, so hardly a relevant reference point to exploit in this discussion.

If Starmer has a daughter who is a complete capitalist, who can invent a new platform to make a serious amount of money out of the masses and maybe do a little bit of tweaking around legal boundaries in countries like China to make even more money, then sure why not! There are absolutely no holes at all in your analogy, we are saved. VOTE STARMER!

It's like people turning up to watch training though at the minute isn't it. You will get a half house for the warm up and a full house for the match. Things will warm up in a few years time when an election is getting close. It doesn't really matter what Starmer says now, he can't force an election, it's just a goal that nobody will remember in a few years time. Rishi will be the net keeper then though so it might be a different game.

His £250 gift to public sector workers has just been proven to be a behind inflation deal - he badly misjudged that corner and is staying on his line in future.

The economic illiteracy of the right wing brains trust on here is genuinely hilarious! Let’s be honest though we are in unprecedented times. From the start of COVID-19 we were always going to be in for a rocky ride. Now I don’t think the govt have done a particularly great job but I don’t believe any party would do much better. With the web, media and TV everyone’s an expert and thinks they have the answer especially around Covid where you can have experts from the medical profession who have completely different views. The problem is you never look at any issues whether through rational eyes just ones filled with hate for the Tories.
