Crikey just watching the Community Shield and Ian Darke must be absolutely tearing his hair out at Chris Sutton’s inability to co commentate. Dire! Sutton is generally awful when he’s near Savage, when he’s watching Rangers and when he’s watching Celtic. I’ve found him to be ok when he doesn’t have a connection or trying to be a dick with Savage. He is boring though.

Hansen was very good.
Robbie Earle is one of the best pundits around too.

Best - Roy Keane is usually better entertainment than the game itself, a boiling cauldron of anger ready to explode at any moment. Even the most uninteresting games manages to provoke some sort of unjustified anger and wrath from Keane.
Worst - Danny Murphy

The way he talks about professional footballers you’d think he was better than Pele when he was playing😏

He oozes sheer arrogance when he talks & despite playing at Liverpool & Spurs will never go down as a great at either of them clubs. Murphy needed to be in the current cull of old has beens for sure.

Ebony Rainford-Brent and Michael Holding have had an excellent summer with the cricket. Stand out cricket commentator is Ian Smith. Neville is in a whole league of his own in terms up punditry on football. Personal choice but Martin Tyler is horrific to listen to. I find Ebony really fucking dull. There’s no life in her voice. Yep, Mikey is always good, or "whispering death" as he was known as in his blistering career, Ebony whatsit thingy is crap, wouldn't mind rummaging around on the sofa with her for an hour on the sofa with her though, stumps up, cherry polished, then send a full toss up her neatly mown crease.😁🏏

⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️ This, including the wonderful Brian Johnston and all the old TMS team, simply sublime. 🏏 It's interesting. Radio self-evidently needs a commentary. Although only a commentary - no numpty punditry. And I agree that those mentioned above were in a different class. (Although not Peter Alliss). But TV? For example, when was the last time you were actually at a match and thought: "Yeah it's OK. But what would really complete the experience is someone telling me what I can see is happening". Agreed pal, never have thought that or will do either, there has always been class in radio commentary, it is a huge gulf these days as the wankers on TV are all so shite now, it's all these shitty pundits and commentators that are helping me to dislike modern day football, especially that smarmy cunt Tyler, absolutely shite.

Of the new wave I like Danny Higginbotham and Dean Ashton. Perhaps not popular opinion but to my liking. I really despise Prutton. I don’t even watch Stoke build up if it’s him. I don’t think any Stoke supporter could abide Prutton. Now I may be mistaken but I’m sure I saw a comparison on his EFL predictions the other week where if all his predictions had turned out correct then Stoke would have finished bottom. He clearly isn’t a fan and the feelings mutual Hes one that needs dumping in the 'cunts' bin, and he'll be in fine company with the scum gooners and bournemuff.

Seeing as the Soccer Saturday thread has been canned, thought I’d start a new one regarding people’s thoughts on punditry, commentating etc. Who are the best/worst at the moment and for the hell of it, all time? George Andrews. Anyone who has a copy of 'With Chayze' will be able to find some of his gibberish recorded for posterity. My favourite of these being 'hard and low, over the bar'. Of the new breed I think Higginbottom talks sense and that's no favouritism. My favourite sounding pundit is John Gwynne, sounds like he was born to the job.

Who’s the main one on BT Sports Champions League commentary? I still like Alan Parry and Ian Darke I remember watching the world cup in a bar when I was in Texas. Ian Darke was commenting on a game and the guy that owned the bar said summat like “Dang I wish he could talk on American sport” I love Ian Darke on commentary, as his boxing commentary is always superb he gives an excitement to football commentary that is similar, especially in these times of no crowd, a wonderful commentator, one of the best.

On the plus side, you can console yourself with the knowledge that you are supporting anyone working for the BBC as a pundit ("yeah, he'll be disappointed with that") via the licence fee... They honestly could get in a couple of blokes/women from the pub to do at least as good a job. Pay them a case of Stella and a curry. Hey presto, win/win.

The best: Anchormen-Gary Newbon, Des Lynam Commentators-Hugh Johns, Barry Davies Pundits- Cloughie (not when he was ill) Shearer just once (only because he told it like it was after the Euro humiliation)
The worst-all of them with a special mention for Clive Tyldlesy and Lineker.

Not footy, but Richie Benaud was the master of saying everything by saying absolutely nothing. I feel it’s something people like Fletcher could learn a lot from, not every second on air has to be filled, and not every goal has to be the most dramatic thing on Earth. Still on cricket, Wasim Akram. The regulars do nothing except lick his (and Waqar Younis) arse and he does nothing except tell you what you’ve just seen and repeat what the experts have just said, all in a boring monosyllabic tone. Boring as hell (Wasim, not the great game of cricket!)
