Already lost half a stone. Diet and exercise, the way forward for the nation, if not the Oatcake? www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-53930665Interesting chat on Radio Stoke earlier with a PT saying some people just need that regime and instruction to get started. She was also plugging gym buddies, running buddies, running/ cycling clubs and all other sports as a way to get started.

It must be an infringement of civil liberties pointing out that being fat is not good for you, or evidence of a nanny state or population control or something. People should be allowed to be as fat as they choose. Just let people lives their lives as they see fit. Etc.

Well he’s had a big wake up call and unfortunately that’s usually what it takes for folk to get up and exercise regularly. It’s difficult to get started alongside all the things you need to give up or cut down on along with work stresses and all that. Good luck to him though

Before people start spreading the usual myth of oh it costs the NHS x much just remember people who do sport cost the same in injury breaks heart attacks etc just look at your local a and e especially on a Sunday morning /lunch time. Think of the millions spent on knee surgery for cruciate ligament injuries etc its important to get a happy medium going on at larger people as some do actually adds to the problem with mental health problems etc sometimes there could be reasons for someone being larger think of what you do when you're depressed etc people should look at the person within not the package they are in to many in this society are to quick to judge just on appearance and it goes to show how shallow they really are

Good luck to him though Johnson tried to bluster his way through the virus in the same way hes done with everything else in his life, and it nearly ended him. As with most of us, it's diet which appears to be the issue with him, and the near death experience has given him the necessary kick up the arse to eat better.

Look at any picture from the 70's and 80's and most people on it are of a healthy stature, society has gone weak and lazy, blaming anything on mental health. By the way, anybody in an associated running, athletics club, gymnastics etc. are insured by the governing body so the injury and recovery will be paid for by that.

Most doctors advise a regular walk to keep fit. When I was at secondary school I walked 2 miles to school and back everyday. Plus we had regular cross country runs too. My aunt asked why they made us do such runs? And I replied 1914-18 and 1939-45!

Regular walking is pretty good, it becomes a habit too which is good.
I use Strava to record walks (and the occasional run when the achilles allows it) and it helps to keep me motivated to make sure I do as much if not more than the previous month.
Sensible diet and regular walks and the weight slowly drops off. Half a stone in my case since I started about six months ago - nothing earth-shattering I know but it all helps and back into a 'healthy' weight range according to BMI now (I know BMI doesn't work for everyone).

And if anything the mental health benefits outweigh the physical ones.
