Pal of mine is an amazon driver, earns good wages, flexi hours and ok conditions. Even Hermes are getting it right. That's what I'd be doing. Avoid at all cost trade plate driving. A bigger bunch of twats you will never meet. I’ve often wondered about trade plate driving didn’t realise it was that bad. Hermes owner driver sounds interesting I did trade plate for a week in between jobs. We were picked up from home by a guy in a people carrier and dropped off at the car location. You'd drive the car to whichever auction premises were having the car and get collected by the same guy in people carrier and taken to the next job. If it was a late job you take the car home and drive it to the auction place the next morning. The longest one was a pick up in llandudno and delivered to Nottingham. As much as I like driving I was glad when the job in Butt Lane came up. (2016)

If you live anywhere near the hospital, they are always looking for porters, they like to employ older people too as the job demands maturity. Look the money isn't the best and it can be hard work but it's an honest trade, it's a job where you're helping folks and more importantly it's very, very secure work. Sorry to hear the news, Tony, but good on ya with the positive outlook and well done Trenty for the excellent suggestion.

I got a part time job on Tesco shelf filling ( meat and dairy ) It was ok although heavy work and plenty of it, I applied for a few jobs and while I was at Tesco I was offered a job working for the nhs as a path lab courier which is where I am now . Great job working with good people .. thanks for all the advice 👍

Would be great but not counting the chickens yet. Well done mate, it’s tough out there👍🏻

I applied at the hospital, no luck I feel that this fits in well on a thread about "Jobs for old uns" and you not getting a job at the hospital... A middle-aged father has won a £7,500 payout in an age and sex discrimination case after being rejected for an NHS job because he wouldn't fit in with the 'millennial' women who already worked at the trust. Despite being the best-performing candidate in an interview and scoring highest on all the tests, Neil McClements, 50, was rejected for a project manager post after potential colleagues at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS trust in London were consulted on his application. A hearing was told they thought the father-of-two was 'nothing like' the young woman he would be replacing and they felt he wouldn't fit in. So, a much younger female candidate in her 20s was selected instead, even though she had performed less well in her interview.

Question: are there any Pensioner Pools or Veteran Pools in England?
FYI, In Sweden we have that. Basically, they're companies started by people to let people 55+ up to no written age limit continue to work if they can. It could be almost anywhere where there is a demand for life experience or life long knowledge.
You list your skills and interests and wait for them to call. Like being a consultant.
Most industries. Examples are accounting, carpentry, moving assistance, teaching, painting, childcare.
And if no such thing exists atm, it could be an idea to start one ...
