What would be realistic expectations for fans to have for the next season? Mid table? Pushing for playoffs? Achieving playoffs? Promotion?

Definitely pushing for play offs.

I would be content with a top half finish in and around the playoffs but MON's win ratio suggests we can sneak in the top 6, I'll plump for 5th place!

We're going up this year in Top spot. I said the same last year and eventually I will be right and can say I told you so.

We've got to be aiming for play-offs but I'd be happy as long as there or there about.

We will finish between 9th and 13th, won’t threaten the play offs and won’t skirt relegation.

Looking at teams like Forest and Swansea, there's no reason we can't challenge for play offs.

I think it will all depend on whether we can get a start and build that precious commodity momentum.

I think it will hinge mainly on the defensive players we are able to sign. If we get that right we'll make the play-offs. Get a pacey replacement for Ince as well and it's a top two spot!

Periods of pain and heartache interspersed with brief spells of joy and hope.
50 years of following Stoke would suggest that expecting anything else is madness.
Realistically, mid-table -> top half. Maybe a brief flirt with the playoff positions, scotched with a couple of games left in the season.
I figure MON has a couple of seasons' rebuilding yet to get us into being a team that could challenge for promotion.
And much will depend on our first half dozen games of the season - I really hope we don't have our usual disastrous start !!

I expect to be top ten somewhere The players we have right now if they match the O'Neil form will achieve that. Hoping for more but that requires more improvement.
Just having a positive season will be refreshing.
Having said all that I think O'Neill will be doing everything he can to really go for it.

Play offs. Momentum counts for a lot and since Xmas we have been in play off form and there is nothing to suggest we can't keep that standard going. We've already bought in a left back and confirmed one of the CBs and I really don't think there will be much more transfer activity beyond outgoings. O'Neill has got the team playing as an effective unit already and if anything I can only see us improving as the season goes on.
We've started badly in the last 2 seasons in large part because of player turnover, new systems and a lack of familiarity on the pitch - this will be the first time in a number of seasons where we will have team playing the first game who know what they are doing so I don't see a slow start being an issue.
There isn't a team in this league from last season who we aren't capable of beating and the only reason I'm not saying automatic promotion is because I've no idea how the teams coming down will perform and that every year the Championship seems to throw up a team from nowhere who end up playing out of their skins - but just maybe that will be us.
By way of balance I'm a hopeless optimist with a dreadful record for predicting anything.

100+ points and goals. Anything short of that will earn the entire squad a hard stare and a "tut".

Great...
Oh sorry I thought this was the word association thread..
Top half finish with a shot at play offs has to be the least. Anything less will surely be another failure of a season (the norm)...

After the trauma of the last 2 seasons it would be easy to say just stay away from the bottom and aim for a comfortable half way position. But Brentford apart there's not much to choose between most teams in this division. The teams coming up look weak and the teams coming down often don't do as well as expected.(we're the proof of that). So with a manager who looks capable of getting the best out of the players at his disposal and a few new acquisitions we should really be aiming for the play offs.

Not having to look anywhere near the bottom of the league table would be a nice start.

i would like to know where the new optimism comes from only about 4 weeks ago the players we have were said to be the biggest bunch of wankers we have had and were not fit to wear the shirt, we have only made 1 signing so far, i hope we do have a better season but i doubt we will be pushing without some better players adding to the team

Not being in the bottom 3 after 10 to 15 games will do for a start.
I am sure we have been in that position going all the way back to Pulis era so approx 6 or 7 seasons. Maybe some bright spark could confirm?
Lets see after that if we are happy or everyone is baying for the managers head!!

I’d be happy to be around the play offs going into the final half a dozen games of the season for excitement. Although I actually think we should be aiming for promotion, or else what’s the point?
