If you look at the source, though, there's absolutely no suggestion of any Newcastle interest whatsoever.
It's just one of those clickbait local news website 'name 3 players from the Championship that a Prem team could still buy'

Clubcall was great when it was a particularly spicy teaser. Simpler times. Not great for the phone bill though after they'd spent 90 seconds welcoming you, another 2 minutes going theough the injuries before linking you to a 33-year-old Lithuanian right-back If you were a Newcastle fan, you'd be all over that one, wouldn't you?

All the other boys were craftily ringing the 0891 mucky lines at the back of their Dad's Sun and sniggering at the talk of boobies. You were ringing up for transfer rumours about 33 year old Lithuanians. ???

Would've thought it's in everyone's interests to let Souttar get out on loan? He's at least 6th choice for a max 3 places, isn't he? Amazing how things can change in a month!

Those days when Division 3 matches made up 3 rolling pages were the worst. You'd go into the 89th minute drawing and have to wait an eternity for the page to roll around, more often than not to find we'd lost. Happy days.

I’m glad this post has resurfaced-Bayern get’s a lot of stick but he clearly recognises a Centre Half better than several other well known talent spotters on here. Some really breathtaking comments about Souttar’s lack of talent on page 1 and 2- but who knows? Perhaps he’s just having a purple patch; or perhaps he is the real McCoy; I know which view I take (I remember several fans of the day saying Smith would never make it after Best gave him a 90 minute donkey ride around Old Trafford early in his career, and being told Shawcross hadn’t got it following Davies’ demolition of him at Bolton.) Opinions eh?

To be fair, there was no suggestion MON was preparing to give him a real chance.
As recently as the Linfield friendly, he was very critical of all the youngsters and saying he was disappointed none of them were threatening the first team - and even suggesting the best course may not be just to loan them, but get rid permanently
Same with Tymon really. Before his little cameo at Forest on the final day, he was about as close to the team as Edwards

However we have “ simply isn’t good enough” “milk turns quicker“ and you have to ask how people reach such damning judgements when they have not seen him play; at Forest in the League Cup he was better than BMI and Batth, and if we are talking about slow turners- well did anybody watch the middle of last season’s defence?

I remember finding out on Teletext when West Ham signed Tevez and Mascherano ha ha. Living in Shropshire and pre internet days I used to rely on teletext. I always used to go straight to page 312 (i think) as that was where the news for lower league clubs like ourselves was. I distinctly remember seeing on teletext that we had signed Nigel Gleghorn from Birmingham for 100k
