My mate seems to think Aruba was a shop in the 90s? Could have been. So what was the order of pubs on a night out in Hanley? For me it was as follows. Monday - Heaths, Manhattan, Foyer, Millionaires, Flacketts, Rosies, Place. Thursday - Trinity’s,Foyer, Pig n Truffle, Yates’, Valentino’s Saturday - Foyer, Fluid, Satchmos, Void Wednesdays and Fridays were reserved for Newcastle, Sunday’s all day in the local. Tuesdays night off😬

Weds (castle)- The Tube (opp bus station to the right of Revs), Lymes (next to Revs), Reflex, Blues, Edwards', Fluid, Brassos. Thurs/Fri- Hogshead, Heaths, Pig, Yates's, Foyer then it was either Void (Thurs) or Vallies (Fri). Sat- Tontine (for my 'prescription' 😉), Foyer, the Irish place that used to be Leadbelly's then Void

Wasn't Aruba. Just come to me, JFK. was a cracking bar. Fluid was the knackers!!! Next to JFK was a bar called Base, and for a short time (no longer than a few months) the place that's now a takeaway on the corner of the passage where Yates's/Reflex is was a bottle bar called Bug. I think these were early 00s. Bug was owned by Steve Buxton (the bloke who shouts " Mighty, Mighty, Potterrrrrrrrrrrrrsssssssss!" at an ear-splitting decibel through the PA system on a matchday). I went in once on a Monday evening to be greeted by the sight of Jurgen Vandeurzen and mystery man Jani Viander each enjoying a bottle of warm Carlsberg (they were the only people in the establishment).

Jumping jacks on a Sunday night was quality. I used to go Hanley Monday, castle Wednesday, Hanley Saturday and Sunday religiously. People used to swear by castle on a Friday (I think) but I never used to get involved. What about castle- blues bar anyone? Guild Hall? Fluid??? Brings back many a good memory.. Guildhall was brilliant- right in the middle of town. There was the bar downstairs and a club part upstairs. It was a mint layout. I used to go every Thursday as it was 241 on Stella. It's a council building now I think, but it has real potential as a bar (with restaurant up top). Blues Bar was tiny but the mirrors made it look huge 😂 Yes Guildhall, perfectly set up for a cracking place to drink. Blues always looked bigger mainly due to the extra curricular activity before and during 🤔

According to today's Sentinel intu want Lidl to move in. Which kind of reinforces the fact that Hanley's a bit shit.

Saw that🤦🏻♂️ Mind you, every shopping centre you go in in Germany has one and seems to increase footfall. It’s just a bit shit isn’t it, needs more big names and especially independent shops. Saying that I’ve heard the rent is so extortionate no one will touch it with a barge pole.

O'Neills I think. The other name rings a bell though I think the Farrow and Firkin was next to The Rouebuck Hotel in Stoke by the train station come to think of it🤔 That was the Fawn and Firkin, sticks in my mind cos a mate had The Roebuck for years.

Had some brilliant nights up Hanley, from about the age of 16 onwards.
We used to go to Millionaires and Flackets early doors. Those 2 bars stand out more than most in my memory. Had some good times in there.
We'd normally end up at The Place.
Absolute hate nightclubs now (sign I'm getting old) but had some great nights up Hanley duck, back in the day.
The place is an absolute shit hole these days.

Somebody start a ‘top Hanley DJ’ survey, I’ll start with a few.... Chris Williams (Top Rank) Phil Oliver (Antelope) Trevor M (The Place basement+ Fluid) Wilf (Leadbelly’s) Pete Bromley (Satchmo’s)

Wasn't the Firkin Hanley further up the road from Fluid? Great thread, bought back some great memories, pub ans club scene in Stoke mid 90s early 2000s was a great time. Hate sounding like an old cunt but to me we had a far better time then than 20 somethings do now

I regale the 20 something’s at work about Hanley back in the day and it makes them really angry that they have to put up with today’s shite. One thing that cannot ever be denied is Hanley was way better in the 90s
