That is something like Aruba isn't it? Later than 90's I thought for that place. We used to go Valentino's after going Flackets but we used to go out the back and turn right at the end where the Foyer is. Walkabout wasn't there until after 90's. Yes it was called Aruba in the early 2000s but can’t for the life of me remember what it was before. I remember it stood empty for a good while before Aruba. It’s doing me head in now trying to think of it🤦🏻♂️ Was there somewhere called something like Ibiza in Hanley?

Dew drop was on Marsh St next door to The Jovial Forresters. Across from The Junction in the latter days. It turned into a Turkish restaurant I think

Minstrels, Quenchers/Millionaires/The Tube, Heaths (concur about the jukebox, was excellent. Had both 'Dig your own hole' and if I remember rightly the Back to Basics triple CD at one time) The Place and more so for me Valentinos. Amazing to think how popular these places were, queues around the block at times. I must have spent a small fortune at Vallys.
Proper nights out that unfortunately the youth of today will never experience. Dressing up, getting twatted and somehow pulling girls. The music wasn't half bad either.
Don't get me wrong. It wasn't all sweetness and light. It was really fucking violent at times but they really were glory days, the 90's.

Disgusting bogs I seem to recall🤔

It's not just the clubs and bars. Some very decent shops such as Webberleys, Chatwins the bakers and the usual names that have been stripped from every high street. The Gas showroom opposite the Stanley Matthews statue springs to mind. It's not just a Hanley thing, the trouble with Hanley it's not littered with history so when social shops are replaced by boring Vape or mobile phone screen replace ones then it's got a problem. It's not alone though.

Always used to go JJB for sports stuff n all

Possibly, Mike Lloyds for tickets, records and associated gig travel and the cheap boot place just up from there, for all your reduced worker boots. E. Cartlidge at the bottom for the old net curtains. The whole of the area that is demolished used to (honestly) have some decent shops as well. Gone and never ever to return.

Borough exchange on hope street for us rockers. Plus black horse, stage door, Chaplin's by the viccy hall The antelope, which was a very weird place with lots of road signs on the walls. Dewdrop which is now a kebab shop.
Think there was a pub called the swan on broad street near Tarts shop but could be wrong.
One i never went to was the zoo.

Rescue II (or something like that? ) in the arcade which is now 'Spoons/Waterstones.

The old army navy store opposite the cannon is cinema. Used to go rooting for the green army shirts looking for ones with badges or names on. And occasionally finding some with sewn up 'bullet holes'. Dead mans man's clothing.
The old model train shop next to fantasy world was another which i used to be a amazed at as a kid.

Argos, which was massive. They used to have display hifi systems at the back. Me and some mates went in one time to test out the lastest thrash metal cd. Needless to say we didn't get past track 1 😄😄

Someone mentioned the Antelope on Hope Street, if we’re talking mid to late 70’s (I know - too retro for a lot of guys on here!) it must have been one of the most diverse bars going, well ahead of its time. A Jamaican fella named Dave ran it, so you’d have his mates in en route to the Unity Club in Cobridge, then you’d have the gay crowd en route to the 141 Club, also there’d be the northern soul crowd who’d use it as the DJ Phil Oliver was a mate and they’d use it as a base en route to Wigan Casino!

Nobody talks about Trinities but it wasn’t bad if you’d failed to pull decent birds earlier in the night😏 Funnily enough Trinity's was never on our route- only went in a couple of times. I'll ask around re: what Aruba was

Next to JFK was a bar called Base, and for a short time (no longer than a few months) the place that's now a takeaway on the corner of the passage where Yates's/Reflex is was a bottle bar called Bug. I think these were early 00s.

Jumping jacks on a Sunday night was quality. I used to go Hanley Monday, castle Wednesday, Hanley Saturday and Sunday religiously. People used to swear by castle on a Friday (I think) but I never used to get involved.
What about castle- blues bar anyone? Guild Hall? Fluid???
Brings back many a good memory..

Guildhall was brilliant- right in the middle of town. There was the bar downstairs and a club part upstairs. It was a mint layout. I used to go every Thursday as it was 241 on Stella. It's a council building now I think, but it has real potential as a bar (with restaurant up top). Blues Bar was tiny but the mirrors made it look huge 😂

D'Milne used to have his Ace of Clubs nights there (that was an underrated night). Honourable mention to Les Hemstock (ex Jive Bunny) and his Gold 'n' Delicious night on Mondays in The Place Basement.
