Was walking around trentham Italian gardens today with the wife , and found a backpack containing two i phones , purse with money over £120 and bank and credit cards and other stuff , both phones were on with no phone lock so rang one of the numbers off there contacts who managed to ring the owners as one of the phones was a works phone , any way they met us outside by the garden centre said thanks very much and went , tbh I would have bought them a coffee if roles reversed or is that just me , thoughts please

I found a new iPhone again unlocked, went through contacts “dad” who I met and handed it over and was given £20 but told him to make a donation to his favourite charity.

I think it’s poor form not to offer a reward. Having said that I personally wouldn’t accept a reward. It’s just nice to be appreciated😬

When I was about 9 I found a purse on the street outside Proctor's in Wolstanton.
Purse had the address in it a few streets away
I knocked on the door said I'd found it and the old bat rang the police & said I'd nicked it.
Lovely
A few years later I was doing my paper round and found the door keys left in the door (this was a different house obviously) , rang the bell and the old lady gave me £5 ,she was chuffed saying anyone could have broken in.
Not sure what point I've got here...

When I was a teenager we used to drive to various "spots" in the sticks to smoke weed. I managed to lose my wallet at one of these places and had a decent chunk of money in there. I received a call from the police saying someone had handed the wallet in, then went to collect and the money was still there of course so I asked for their details so I could at least phone / write to thank them, but was told that the police aren't able to take those details for certain reasons that I've now forgotten. It's a shame although I was in such a stoner fog at that time in my life that there could've been money missing and I wouldn't have remembered.
And ye, I totally agree with you OP that it seems a bit crass for them to offer nothing. As you say, they could've at least offered to buy you and your missus a cuppa.

I once found 70 quid hanging out of a cash point in Hanley. I was about 16 at the time so I waited round for 5 expecting somebody to come and retrieve it before legging it with it in me back pocket. Since then I’ve probably left a total of about 200 quid hanging out of cash points and gone back to see if it’s still there and it never has been. I don’t get angry about it though I just think of what I did and think well that’s just karma AGAIN😉

I found a wallet a while back. It was just sitting on a wall next to a bus stop, it had just shy of £500 in notes and little else bar a couple of credit cards and debit card which, strangely, were all in different names. There was no driving licence or any other form of identification at all, just the three cards in different names. This was at silly o'clock (around 03:30) on a weekday and the town centre was dead. There was literally nobody in sight, on foot or in a car, and it was deathly silent.
I took the cash and left the wallet in situ.

Found 'Uncle Pete' listed so pressed 'call' and said "Er, 'ello, Uncle Pete, who did you think this was going to be?" He said a chap's name and then said "Are you his girlfriend?"  I explained etc etc, and asked if he'd contact him and get him to ring me for directions, which he did in due course and then called later to collect the thing. He didn't offer a reward, and similarly I wouldn't have accepted anything for myself, but it would have been nice if he'd offered so I could have politely declined. Incidentally, had he offered and insisted, as Ques says, I would have said that if he absolutely wouldn't take no for an answer, I would have asked him to make a donation to charity, and if he'd asked which one I'd have said any animal charity. |

Wouldn't accept anything in return including the £20 quid I had off them half hour before for selling them crate of beer.

Misplaced my backpack at Trentham Gardens the other day with money, phones, credits cards etc in it.
Managed to get it back but thought I'd report it to the police just in case. The bloke looked really shifty. Might have planned it to get a free coffee or summat. Can't be too careful.

I found someone's bank book many years ago, which had a couple of grand in the account.
As a good samaritan i took it back to the owner as it had some address details in it.
Fortunately it was local as the address was in normacot and i lived in longton.
When i knocked on the door, some bloke answered, virtually yanked the book out of my hand with an half arsed thank you and shut the door in my face.
As a young lad i was somewhat shocked by his tone and disappointed that he wasnt more appreciative of my honesty, but i took some solace that i did a good deed.
I await some karma to this day.

I have to admit to finding a phone at The Curragh races once after a few pints and having a bit of fun with it. We did find out that it belonged to a guy called Trevor because when we texted Portia she replied ' I had no idea you felt that way about me, Trevor'.
We handed it in eventually. I wonder if Trevor and Portia ever hooked up

A thank you is fine, I never understand why its expected to give a reward for giving somebody their belongings back, its their belongings you (whoever) just happened to find it, they didn't hire you to look for it |

Fair play to you for your honesty, but their are plenty who would have seen it as a gift and pocketed the lot. I personally would have wanted to offer a finder something, but if I was the finder would flatly refuse any reward.
