There has been far far worse managers in our time who don’t publicly “acknowledge accountability”
I agree it was bad in the end, but Hughes got us playing some of the best football I’ve ever seen us play. We signed superstars and he got us beating all the big boys - City, United, Chelsea, Arsenal, etc - and comfortably at times too.
He’s a good manager who lost his touch, but don’t be fooled into thinking he made all the signings. There’s a team of people who do that for him.
If I ever saw him, I’d but him a pint and thank him for some great times. I don’t think he owes us anything, it was a hell of a ride.

Yet they provided us with some of the best times, players and games we’ve ever had 🙄

Hughes was a poor man’s Wenger. Like Wenger did post Graham, he took a solid backbone and built some flair on top. The problem Hughes had with Stoke is that when that solid backbone started to fade or be moved out, he had no idea how to replace it.
That gave us a few awesome years and some memorable moments. It also put us in a position of being a mentally and physically weak squad in a tough league by the end of his tenure. I prefer to remember him for the good times, much in the same way I do Pulis. One more season with Pulis at the helm could have led to our relegation in my view, we were falling apart. Hughes came in and extended our tenure for a few more years.

By the end of Pulis' tenure I was so beaten down by the football I welcomed the Championship, I really did.
People would do well to appreciate those three seasons under Hughes more, it might be the best football I ever see us play in my lifetime.
He fell apart, as did his team, but I blame the club's handling of it far more than I blame Hughes personally. He's always had a record for buying dross when he's given big money but is good on the cheap, we perhaps showed a bit too much faith in him in the transfer market.

Also sorry but do people expect him to come on and say, 'yeah I destroyed Stoke City'. It's a radio interview not a fucking kangaroo court, he won't ever work in management again if he comes out saying how wank he was, get real ffs.

The team was a shit show but wasnt all Leslie. The point was about Wenger really. I'm in a bad mood but that doesnt change the facts.

The "meta", prevailing thoughts, general approach or whatever you want to call it changed during Hughes time with us and he just didn't comprehend the new approach. It's the same thing that rendered Wenger less effective as a manager 10 years prior in the late 2000's when it changed then. Rowett brought a style of play to Stoke that probably would've been really successful prior to 2005. Mourinho has been less effective a manager in the last 5 years than the last 10, and even less so than before then.
Not many managers can transition through the style changes in football.

I don't agree that he had no idea how to replace the old defensive guard. There's a lot of people who mourn the transfer passing of Bardsley and Pieters who are both still playing PL football, but they were both brought in on Hughes' watch. Whether they were his signings or not (Pieters had certainly been discussed during Pulis' last season) is another matter, but both of them had good and bad periods. Wollscheid appeared at first to be an inspired signing, much more comfortable on the ball than his predessor, but some personal problems took over in his life, and he became less effective.

By time he left we were down with players who were repulsive little shits. I’m looking at you Imbula, Berahino, Jese, Wimmer...

Leicester paid £3M for Huth, and while it turned out differently, it appeared at the time that Huth was coming to an end. he had been unfit for more than a year. Hughes probably thought he was doing Huth a favour by letting him leave to what at the time looked like relegation bound Leicester. If he knew what was to happen, he would have done differently, don't you think.

Harry McGuire , Andy Robertson , Cedric Soares were his first choice replacements and then the process kicks in add Tadic and Delph to that list
Only seven people have Won more games in the history of the premier league but someone thought Paul Lambert was a good idea to replace him .
Of course Hughes made mistakes they all do but His record at Blackburn Fulham and here says he’s a decent manager . He then saved Southampton and helped send us down while we we bounced from lambert to Rowett to Jones none of which are in his league as a manger someone thought all that was the answer and it wasn’t Mark Hughes

I am still of the belief that if we’d stuck with Hughes we would not have been relegated. We might have taken a few more pastings but we would also have won enough games to stay up. There would have had to be some serious re-building at the end of the 2018 season, possibly with a new manager in place, but at least we would have still been at the top table and in the market for Premier League quality players.

Great fella, when he asked me who I supported he seemed a bit apologetic but told him was the best had ever seen at times. In 20 years time when there is a another history video made I guess most of it will be the wins we had v the big boys under Hughes. Sad it ended the way it did
