I was at the game where Giggs scored his solo effort against Arsenal. Great game tbf. Remember watching this game on TV & that was great so must of been awesome actually being there watching it live! Remember watching the game with my grandad and it did have it all especially the Giggs goal. Seem to recall the match being put back abit & having a delayed kick off at Villa Park due to traffic delays perhaps?

Got to say despite disliking both Liverpool & Gerrard, the Gerrard Final V West Ham was one hell of a final.. Etherington played for the Hammers that day..

We were on a school trip to London when the replay was played. We all crowded into the hotel lounge and watched it on what was probably a family size TV. Rain, mud, brutal tackling and an extra time winning goal from a long throw. It was a brilliant evening, though I am not quite sure what the other guests (or the management) thought of a load of over excited 11 year olds. The early 70s were the heyday of the FA Cup, Alli, IMHO. The combination of more colour TVs and that it was still only one of about four live footie matches of the year, meant that it still a special, magical fixture In the football calendar. The true end to the season, unlike nowadays with the playoff finals. Family and friends crowding around the TV, cans of Long Life beer and a Watneys Party Seven; me along with the other kids relegated to the floor with a can of Coke, the curtains drawn to keep out the glare of the afternoon sun. Special memories. It was also the time of commemorative collections. I still have the full set of Esso coins in their special folder (collected by my dad over several months with petrol purchases). That was for the 1972 final between Leeds and Arsenal, one of the finals that should have had Stoke in it. Only sad thing was we had to have fucking semi-finals . . . .

1955/56 - Bert Trautmann breaking his neck after colliding with Peter Murphy's knee - and carry on thinking he only had a stiff neck!
Also 1947/48 - Jack Rowley and Stan Pearson mesmerising Blackpool and spoiling Stan's first Cup Final Also 1950/51 - Two lovely goals from Jackie Milburn for Newcastle
The absence of substitutes for injured players spoiled many of the earlier Finals. Arsenal, Bolton, Man City, Nottingham Forest to name just four. Nowadays, there's a boatload of subs for every game!

Most bittersweet moment, seeing our Jimmy win a cup winners medal in 1977, oh I wish it could have been in the red and white stripes of Stoke

Even still was a hell of a game. Was definately late kicking off as was on the way home from our game on the A500 when he scored. Strange I remember that as girlfriend at the time was sulking that night as I wouldn't go to see some posters called The Smashing Pumpkins with her. I hate concerts

As a kid it had to be Giggs goal vs Arsenal and the celebration after. Most kids during that time who were into footy were recreating that celebration.
As a match West Ham vs Liverpool with the Gerrard winner was a full on entertaining game.

I was at the game where Giggs scored his solo effort against Arsenal. Great game tbf. After our game v Wycombe watched extra time in The Norfolk. Predictably I ended up having a go at a gloryhunting shit fan. He had a bit of a mental when Giggs scored. I told him it was a great goal but it was none of his business.

strange the things you remember, there used to be a programme on the night before the game called Who will win the cup, only watched it once the night before Sunderland played Leeds and a woman was interviewed ans said she had no doubt Sunderland would win as her son in law was the goalkeeper Jimmy Montgomery and he would keep them out. She said it with total belief but don't think there were many of the same mind then Montgomery did have one hell of a game and her prediction came true, a real shock at the time. Secondly the delightful scousers the night before playing Wimbledon singing "underground overground wombling free you'll be so lucky if we only score three" Liverpool missing a penalty and some agricultural tackling from Vinnie Jones ensured that prediction didn't come true most enjoyable. Most recently Man City V Wigan the day David kicked Goliath straight in the gonads absolutely priceless.

Most recently Man City V Wigan the day David kicked Goliath straight in the gonads absolutely priceless. Was going to mention that, oddly. Was Brian Moore sat round a table with old crusties like Ron Greenwood usually getting the score completely wrong, interviews with local milkmen or butchers and a look at the awful FA Cup songs. There would always be an old Granny from Coventry or whoever was playing with her rosette on or a 97 year old fan who remembered the last time they got to the semis or whatever.

The build up before the kick off when it used to be properly at 3 pm. There would be a whole morning behind the scenes culminating in the players coach trip to the stadium. I used to love it as you got the insight and what it meant to the players. Just doesn’t seem as meaningful any more, but maybe that’s just me lost in nostalgia.
