They've certainly courted trouble for a long time, especially since they let Curbishley go, believing they would do better without him. Still I've always like the Valley and the club itself, so I'd be very sorry if it happened.

The EFL need a long look at themselves. This keeps on happening on their watch but all they're interested in is trying to cancel parachute payments and introduce salary caps in a weird, faux race to the bottom.
Disgraceful.

Dunno, would he have charged in to the boardroom and stolen all their pens so they couldn't complete any paperwork?

EFL is pretty toothless, they simply lack the powers to stop this shit happening. Up to the clubs to vote for the EFL to get more powers.

They really do seem a shit organisation. Like the tv deal they agreed to, utter shite. The wage cap idea is a nonsense.

It will be interesting to see what happens with Wigan, Derby and Sheff Wed...these will be real tests of whether the EFL has any sort of control, or credibility, going forward
Wigan appear to be going down the "force majeure" route, which, if upheld, could surely open the gates for lots of clubs going into admin, blaming covid 19, and avoiding any points deductions...and the time it's taking to sort DDerby and Sheffield is ridiculous

The rate the EFL is going, we'll be in the Premier League by default.
An absolutely wank organisation, where it's runners haven't got a set of bollocks between them, and couldn't organise a piss up in a brewery.

The Curbishley thing is bollocks, he was looking for other jobs and had been interviewed for the England job just weeks before he left.
He wanted no longer than a year extension, and the Charlton chairman wanted him to commit for a longer period of time, which he refused so he left
The concept of him being sacked is one of most popularised myths in English football. He’s even quotes as saying he left for a new challenge.

He's Cooley Jackson's Caucasian street dance sidekick in but one fleeting scene - blink and you'll miss it.

Because he’d been at Charlton for 15 years, and was getting linked to jobs like Liverpool where he was passed over for Benitez and Bobby Robson was saying stuff like he was the best equipped man for the England job. If you’re happy at a club and the challenge why would you not commit to the multi-year deal offered? “"I have had 15 fantastic years, but I wasn't going to extend my contract after my last year. Richard wanted people committed to the club and felt one year wasn't enough commitment.”

True they have now been cajoled by the other League Two clubs into appealing against Macclesfield Town's recent 2 point deduction which will likely mean another point and relegation and probably extinction. All because the Stevenage Chairman has drummed up support for his shite team who hardly won a game and finished bottom for a reason. If anyone is "the next Bury" it'll be Macc

Richard wanted people committed to the club and felt one year wasn't enough commitment.” I've read Curbs' autobiography. He felt he wasn't appreciated enough, that they took him for granted, that they weren't prepared to take the club to the proverbial next step. Thing is when he left, Charlton was a house in order. Not great, but not bad either. Then Iain Dowie walked in, spent more more than his predecessor ever had, and within six months was out again. Then Les Reed and I've forgotten who next. Soon after Murray was ancient. Then Charlton's house was in disarray and never really recovered.

Curbishley's 'did he / didn't he?' aside (& generally acknowledged he didn't) Charlton is nevertheless a salutory lesson in fuck ups.
(The absolute state of the League governance is also there for all to see - but that just tells me it's all the more important to get your own house in order, so you aren't forced to sell to some dodgy foreign national.)
And Charlton proves, like Blunderland, Leeds and many, many others, that once you get into a tailspin it's an almighty job to pull out of it successfully.
MoN took the rudder and managed it, literally, on the pitch and has bought the rest of the club a breathing space with Championship footie to get it back to something like in 20/21.
But upstairs, it's time to dust of the relegation statement Peter (you know, the one that actually sounded remarkably like the one Watford just issued) but not to re-hash it and re-issue it for further vilification but to get the top floor off its collective arris and just do eet (duck).
Albeit two years too late.

Was Lesley still there, green parka and all? I wish... Michael Elphick, Gary Holton, Ray Winstone and Timothy Spall were all cast by Franc Roddam in 'Auf Wiedersehen ,Pet' of course a few years later after appearing in Quadrophenia. I think Michael Elphick wasn't much older than Phil Daniels but played his Dad.
