I can't argue with any of the above suggestions but perhaps the most entertaining game of football that I've ever seen was Stoke 4 Luton 4 in 1982. Peter Fox was sent off when we were 2-1 up for handling the ball outside the box, as a consequence of what was still the relatively new "professional foul" rule. George Berry had scored both the goals and had been assisted for both by Mark Chamberlain, the second with an unbelievable cross. Richie Barker decided to put Carl Beeston in goal but then changed his mind at half-time and put Derek Parkin in goal instead, which was just as well becasue Beeston then scored our third! Luton took the lead for the first time to go 3-4 ahead and it looked all over before Brendan O'Callaghan scored a great goal with a shot from outisde the penalty area to equalise. Luton then got a penalty in the final moments to win it but David Moss hit the post and the rest is history. A quite incredible game of football! That is one of my 5, a mad game It was Paul Bracewell that went in goal first, not the Beest You're right, I must have got them confused after 38 years! It was Bracewell and I think it was him, who when played back outfield in the second half, scored our third?

Stoke 2 The Shit 1, Boxing Day 1984 - for younger viewers that season was known as the Holocaust season, easily the worst season the club has had in living memory but that game was fantastic. 1.0 down, blatant handball on the line (Duxbury?) ref didn't see it but linesman flagged. If he hadn't given it even with the fences honestly believe there would have a mass pitch invasion & a dead referee by the end of it. no red card for the handball in those days so still 11 v 11, a young Carl Saunders popped up with the winner at the (real) Boothen End 12 years old I thought it was brilliant, strongly suspect everyone else did too we didn't win again for several months... Stoke 2 The Shit 1 , Sept 1993 the Steino utter brilliant goals one in the league cup - don't let anyone bullshit you about their 'weakened team' either: Schmeichel, Irwin,Pallister,Dublin,Martin,Kancheslkis,Ferguson,McLair,Phelan,Robson,Hughes Stoke 2 The Shit 1 01 Feb 2014, Charlie Adam rocket, cracking goal, sweet victory Stoke 2 The Shit 0 Boxing Day 2015, Arnie screamer - this game should have been at least 5.0 Arnie should have had at least 3 himsen superb football from Stoke that made even the national media sit up Stoke 3 The Shit 1 'friendly' August 2003 Marc Goodfellow scored 2 & made Barthez look a complete tool (which of course he was) You missed a 1-0 , Brendan O'Callaghan header at the Boothen End. Was about 11 and ended up under a pile of bodies. Think I had shoe imprints on my face after. I literally missed I didn't go.

Not too different from spit...
But.
I have to include 1971 at Boothferry Park.
In my 17 year old world, the start of a dream of SCFC being part of the "big time"

Coventry 1 stoke 2 - promotion year. Lennies goal was the cue for a top mental. Barnsley 2 stoke 4 - MON first game. Like a party in the away end. Stoke 6 dippers 1 - steeevie g last game pmsl. Stoke 0 leicester 0 - the day we got promoted to the prem. Nervous game but the full time whistle and the en masse celebrations were astonishing. The town centre after was one massive piss up. Any win over the scum gooners - always celebrated with extra vigour. Special mention for stoke 5 bolton 0 to get to our first fa cup final. An historic moment. Cov away was 6th choice for me, remember us losing at half time and loads of results going against us, everything had flipped at full time and like you say absolutely belting mental when Lawrence scores

Another insane away day. But lawrences goal was the one that made me realise we could make it to the top table.

No Euro games mentioned yet! Valencia would go in my list now I mention it, although I suppose that's more about the whole experience than the game itself.

Don't know why but it was that result that made me feel like we had a chance to go up. Promotion was far from my mind at the start of the season it was a great result against a good team. Did you go home and create this username by any chance No, but this is our year 😀

A game which lives in the memory, perhaps not in the top 5, was a sunny afternoon at the Vic. in September 1972 when we beat Man City 5 -1. Greenhoff scored a hat trick and Banksy had the time to give a few appreciative waves to the crowd. What's not to like?

Stoke 2 Chelsea1League Cup Final , playing Ajax at the old ground , both the result and the manner in which we stopped Leeds in their tracks after 29 games unbeaten, after that I am struggling to keep the numbers down to 5 so any 2 from the following
Steino making Peter Schmeichel look human, Bolton at Wembley, Arsenal in the first season In the Premier League, party pooping Steven Gerard, Assaidis smash and grab against Chelsea, Diouf runnng the length of the Etihad pitch before nutmegging Joe Hart or beating Man City 2-0 in front of our home crowd which was for me the best football I have ever seen a Stoke side play

Stoke 5-0 Arsenal. Stoke 3-2 Leeds. Stoke 3-2 WHU (LC semi final). Stoke 5-0 Bolton (FA Cup semi final). And no idea of the year or the score, but Stoke V Fulham when Best played for Fulham. I saw him play for Man U, but in this game, even with him unfit and probably past it, Best was (with the possible exception of Banks) the greatest player I have seen live. His performance was staggering - worth at least five of every other player on the pitch. Also agree with Spitthedog - the first Prem game was amazing. Remember the Ajax game too. Agree with the four and I’ll add Stoke. 6-1 Liverpool Dobing’s hat-trick against Leeds! Greenhoff’s and Conroy’s goals in the thrashing of Arsenal!

I don't think I have seen anyone mention our last game at the Victoria Ground, I didn't go to the game but thought it might have been an emotional night for some. At the time I don't remember too many people happy about moving.

I wasn't there unfortunately. 2nd to last game was Port Vale 2-0 both Sheron...last televised game at the Vic? amazed that there was only 16,000 at this game. Crowds were low then though, some games 8 or 9,000, why were they so much lower than Championship attendances now, or were they calculated differently?

Crowds were low then though, some games 8 or 9,000, why were they so much lower than Championship attendances now, or were they calculated differently? A big change over the last 20 years or so is the way that season tickets are sold and marketed. Prior to the late 90s when all seater stadiums became the majority, most clubs didn't have many season ticket holders. While they were cheaper overall than paying per match it wasn't by much and for most people it made more sense to pay on the gate on a match by match basis than pay a big lump sum in the summer. Consequently people tended to pick and choose their matches and you could pay cash on the gate so that meant no faffing with getting tickets in advance. So you'd get big variations in attendances match to match and from one part of the season to another. You might start the season with high attendances due to optimism then end it with poor attendances if the season was a poor one. And you could get 9,000 for a midweek game against a small club with no away fans, then close to 20,000 on the Saturday 3 days later for a local derby. Without that large core of season ticket holders who are committed to come to all or most games, attendances were far more fickle. This is ultimately why clubs changed their season ticket marketing and brought in concepts like the heavily discounted early bird periods to encourage season ticket sales, while simultaneously raising match day prices to push fans in that direction and also maximise profits from match to match ticket sales and profiteer from upturns in form. Getting a season ticket now generally is far better value than paying match by match and if you're intending to go to more than 50% of games during a season it's better value to get a season ticket now and obviously it gives you access to all games. Which has led to more stable attendances because the majority of home fans are season ticket holders rather than a small, hardcore minority and they're committed to go regardless of form and weather etc. A final factor in the shift from buying match tickets to season tickets has been all seater stadia. In the days of terraces you could stand where you want and stand at your favourite spot with your friends or family regardless of whether you've got in with a season ticket or paid cash on the gate 5 minutes before kick off. Now to get the best seats and to guarantee to be sat with the people you know you need a season ticket. Otherwise you could be stuck on the bottom rows in the rain. If you've got a favourite area of the ground and you want to sit there all the time, the only way to guarantee that is with a season ticket. So it puts pressure on people to renew because if they don't then someone else will probably steal their seats and if they decide to sign up again in the future once results improve they might have to accept inferior seats somewhere else. This again encourages people to buy in advance rather than deciding on the morning of the game like in the old days.

1. Stoke vs Man City: FA Cup final - only ‘away’ (though it’s neutral) game I got to see with my Grandmother. Great day out, regardless.
2. Stoke vs Villa - one of the loudest and most tense early season games I’ve ever watched
3. Stoke vs Man City - that red card and then THAT goal. Booing Man City for 20 minutes only to cheer Stoke any time they got a ball - we were awesome fans once. If ever there was a day when you could say that fans mattered to football games, it was that one.
4. Stoke vs Brentford - Millennium Stadium the first away game I watched live that we actually won.
5. Stoke vs Reading - Akinbiyi!!!

From the games I've seen:
1) Stoke 5 Bolton 0 (2010/11)
2) Stoke 3 Aston Villa 2 (2008/09)
3) Stoke 6 Liverpool 1 (2014/15)
4) Cardiff 0 Stoke 2 (2001/02)
5) Stoke 1 Plymouth 0 (1992/93)
Can never decide the game that defines the 92/93 season. Could equally be either of the games v Vale or West Brom.

7-2 Leeds home. 5-0 up at half time. Neil Aspin = tool. 4-1 Brighton away, relagation party like no other.
4-2 Wolves away. RF10 off the bench. I knew we were going up after his match.
3-2 Villa home, welcome to the Prem. I still love you Mama.
4-3 Everton away. BMX at their best, a pinnacle in how to attack. Enthralling match.
