linkAn interesting read in this morning's Sentinel. Speaks fondly of us - with a bit about Crouchie and Ryan. I wonder if we would still have been in the Premier League if Buutland hadn't got his place back? Possibly it wouldn't have made much difference to our history but it just might have done.

Butland cost us two goals, Leicester away (massive clanger) when we were winning and comfortable and less obviously he punched when perhaps he could have caught at West Ham when we were winning but very uncomfortable. Who knows what would have happened. What we do know is Grant was excellent for us.

I think staying up that season wouldâve only delayed the drop to the following year. The rot was too deep, and while Grant might have got us a few more points that season, our problems were a lot wider than just Jack.

He was a fantastic keeper for us.
His performance at Old Trafford was one of the best individual performances I've seen.

We only needed 3 more points to stay up, well 4 with GD.
So 2 draws to become wins...

I can see why Butland got his place back when he regained fitness - he was our prized asset before his injury, after all. My criticism is that he kept his place so easily once it became clear that he had lost "something" after the injury. Not only would Grant have been the better option at the time, being dropped MIGHT have prompted Butland to sort out whatever problems he was having post injury. No guarantees, of course, but I do think it was a mistake not to look at the two keepers and say "at the moment Grant is by far the better option." I do accept that hindsight is a wonderful thing though.

It's all hindsight. At that time Jsck was still regarded as one of the best in the country and was just coming back from injury. Nobody could have foreseen how badly that injury would have affected him. Granty was 34? by then. In hindsight I think had we kept Granty and played him as No 1 then we would have avoided relegation. But having watched all that video, it's nice to know that everything that happened to Granty after he left Derby was a just reward for what he did for us. Top man is Granty and no blame whatsoever can be aimed at him for what happened to us.
OS.

What a great keeper he turned out to be in his short spell here. It would be great to see him involved with the club again in the future. His experience would be invaluable to any young keeper.

I read that as not the norm for a Championship player to already be at Premier League level.

Inspirational stuff there from Lee Grant. Some of the big money wasters who have passed through our doors should read that article and hang their heads in shame.

Is he doing his coaching badges? Does anyone know? Not a clue. He speaks about us with high praise and seems so grateful for having the opportunity. He comes across like a really decent person and being around Man Utd can only add to his experience. If he does eventually become a coach I'm sure he will do a great job for someone. His story is told with much respect and integrity and not an ounce of arrogance, the kind of person people should want around their club.
