Does that tell us anything or is it just anyone beats anyone in the championshipš¤ Weirdly, that is virtually the same points per game (1.58) as we got in all MON's games in charge against the whole division.

Yes, this is what makes getting out of this division so difficult? To get auto promo youāve got to have that magic, stardust, unknown X-factor like Norwich last season, Wolves et al. Hopefully next season weāll move from the X-factor to the Max factor?š

In contrast to this.... our points tally against the 9 teams (yes 9 !!) that finished below us are as follows:
Barnsley 6 Brum 3 Charlton 3 Hull 3 Huddersfield 3 Middlesbrough 0 Luton 4 Sheff Wed 3 Wigan 3
Only one out of nine is under 3 pts so where did we lose all these points ???

The table summary shows we have done quite well against top teams and bottom teams, beating them at home apart from the two promoted clubs. Our poor results are generally against middle of the table clubs. Edit:See table on right side of this link. There is very little green for Stoke wins in the middle of the final table placings for the season: www.soccerstats.com/team.asp?league=england2&stats=u67-stoke-city

With 16 wins we only won 2 fewer matches than Swansea who made the play-offs.
But our 8 draws was the fewest in the league.
Truth is we lost far too many matches when we could and should have dug out a draw if we couldn't win.

Not sure about that Most of the games we lost we were well beaten One or two stickout of course where ought to have got a draw but you could say that about some of the wins

Here are our points hauls against the eight teams that finished above us but outside the playoffs: Forest 3 Millwall 1 Preston 0 Derby 1 Blackburn 1 Bristol C 1 QPR 0 Reading 2 That's one win in 16 - and it came in what was for us a dead rubber on the last day of the season.

The last Forest game should be counted as a game against a top 6 team as they were top 6 when the game started!

Does that tell us anything or is it just anyone beats anyone in the championshipš¤ Any team can best any other team on any given day, but not every time.
The best teams win more than their "share", the worst teams fewer, otherwise everyone would finish level on points at the end of the season.
And with such a small sample size (12 games), it's probably not possible to conclude anything definitive.
But it surely offers hope to Stoke fans, since it must be easier to develop a team which can perform consistently against equal or lesser teams, than it is to step up in class against the top teams.
