Back in Black is my favourite AC/DC album (In fact my favourite album period) and the one that I listen to most of all. Still remember jumping on the bus to Newcastle to buy it at Mike Lloyd's and rushing home to listen to the first songs with Brian Johnson as lead singer.
The album is a masterpiece and is still as fresh today as it was when it was released on July 25th 1980. There's not a bad song on it and even the tracks on there that don't get close to Hells Bells, Shoot To Thrill, Back In Black and You Shook Me All Night Long would come close to being the best songs on most of the subsequent albums they've released.
I don't think there's much doubt that some of Bon Scott's lyrics are in there somewhere. YSMANL is almost certainly his work, but the album is still a magnificent tribute to a great singer and a perfect debut for his replacement.

The fact that forty years later, it still always remains near the top of rock charts says it all.
And a tour of the largest football stadiums will sell out pretty much instantly. Apparently with Johnson back onboard now... We'll see.
A kid who picks up a guitar will also invariably and eventually turn to DC tunes... 🤘

Funny one for the latter albums, full of filler mainly and yet they were always incredible on the tours. BIB undoubtedly top of the pile and at a moment of crisis, they pulled this out of the bag, incredible. Have always had a soft spot for Flick of the Switch though, good album.

Was Noddy Holder in the running to replace Scotty?

Was Noddy Holder in the running to replace Scotty? He was indeed considered, can’t recall where but was a lengthy detailed piece in one of the classic rock mags on this and he was mentioned.

There was a Swiss bloke who sang for a band called Krokus, they were a bit AC/DC esque and I think he turned down audition ( great career move clearly).

I thought they were German Singer was certainly Swiss, they did well for a few years then mid 80s you never heard of them after. AC/DC were a funny proposition, once Bon died they’ were very much Malcolms band and any singer or new member had to toe his line , so Brian probably fell on his feet joining, don’t think he ever got many writing credits. I was in the video for Thunderstruck and met Brian and Angus actually

Not sure about Noddy Holder, but Gary Holton of Auf Wiedersehen Pet fame was apparently auditioned. Good job he didn't get the gig considering what happened to him a few years later!

Gave it a full play from beginning to end last night Dave, something I rarely do nowadays. I remember when Bon died and we weren't even sure at the time if the band would carry on, I said to my mates ... "Do you remember that band Geordie from about 5 or 6 years ago? I think he's got the perfect voice to replace Bon." Never did I imagine that it would actually happen.

I remember seeing them at the Vic Hall on this tour started with the black stage and a big booming bell , it seemed way to small for them and they brought enough kit to fill Bingley Hall , they were awesome.

I remember seeing them at the Vic Hall on this tour started with the black stage and a big booming bell , it seemed way to small for them and they brought enough kit to fill Bingley Hall , they were awesome. The Viccy Hall was too small to get the bell in, so it was just the sound effect of the bell. It was a black curtain that just raised to reveal the band and then Angus appeared from the side to start the guitar intro. It might just be my memory playing tricks but I don't think I've seen the Victoria Hall as full for any gig I've been too since. The flimsy paper tickets weren't too hard to copy back in those days though

What are people's opinions on Axl Rose's stint? Having seen previous tours, I didn't get to see this one, but I've obviously seen the videos. I think they needed a big name to fulfil the tour and he did a great job vocally. In fact his voice sounded the best it's been for years.
As for Back In Black, the stories about it really being a Bon album have water due to the short time period, and the lack of lyrics from Johnson before or since.
Razor's Edge is my next favourite Brian album. With a little filler trimmed it would be almost up there with BIB.

Thought So. Just dunna work for me... Call me old fashioned but a front man should literally own the stage...Not sit down... Wasn't the whole tour just the gigs after he broke his foot, AC/DC got a £1m a night for their wembley gigs, arenas is probably £250k+ a night would have lost alot of money cancelling and not being able to reschedule as GNR were becoming active again.

Thought So. Just dunna work for me... Call me old fashioned but a front man should literally own the stage...Not sit down... I think it was only the first few dates that he was in plaster. But I think he made a conscious decision not to hog the limelight. As mentioned, the tour was booked, and I'm guessing if it was simply a band involved it may not have gone ahead. But you have to factor in all of the crew involved -sound, lights, catering, merch, transport, etc, etc. A huge operations and multiple agencies affected. The industry that's now fucked ..
