Pete wrote some truly wonderful stuff in the early-ish days of the Oatcake.
I even have a copy of his own fanzine attempt - 'The Jolly Potter' gathering dust somewhere.
Anyway, I'd like to get in touch with him regarding something I plan to write.
I was just wondering if he is on here or if anyone knows of his whereabouts these days...
Cheers

Ditched Stoke years ago to follow Crewe. Just how the fuck can anybody start following another club?......if Stoke finished tomorrow I just couldn’t start following anybody else If you split up with your wife you could find somebody else to love but you’ll never come to love another football club That’s my take anyway 😊

If you think you've got a second club, you haven't got a first one.

If you think you've got a second club, you haven't got a first one. It’s more prevalent in the lower leagues, gives some people something to associate themselves with. I know more than one Vale fan who also has a PL club that they ‘follow’. Gives them at least a fighting chance of having something to be happy about, but when their 2nd club is doing badly aswell it’s a double-shitter 🙂

He now follows Chelsea, I believe he's even got a season ticket For the life of me I can't understand why. I'd love to ask him but as you know he won't show his face now, I suspect because he knows the reception he'll get if he does. Unbelievable Jeff!

Stoke City is my first club, far and away but I also go to watch Bristol Rovers a lot and most of my mates are gasheads. When I’m watching Rovers I’m 100% supporting them and I want them to succeed as a football club. On the few occasions Stoke have played Rovers I support Stoke and always would unless the game was at the end of the season and meant fuck all to Stoke but a lot to Rovers. There’s no conflict. I also like watching local non league football, again there is no conflict with my support of SCFC. BM

Wow that’s really really bizarre. I get it when people decide to Leek or Kidsgrove instead, but Crewe? Very odd especially from someone who was so “devoted” that they wrote in the fanzine. Would be interested to hear him tell his story.

There are various other clubs I want to do well, usually because I have friends or family who are fans, but only Stoke has the power to change my mood.
I believe there is only one scenario in which it’s acceptable to change the club you support, and that’s a child who was initially drawn to the glory of supporting a top side seeing the error of their ways and switching to a less glamorous club.

Ditched Stoke years ago to follow Crewe. Those are six words I can say I never expected as a reply. I was waiting for "he passed away in 2007 mate" or "he can't get to games nowadays as he had both feet off in a lifesaving operation" but "ditched Stoke years ago to follow Crewe" proper threw me.

A football crest is different. His actual words were along the lines of you can change your Mrs but you NEVER change your football team.

I have a few foreign teams I like to follow, often ones which play in red and white stripes and are generally unsuccessful so it feels natural! Vicenza, Koln (although they ditched the stripes) spring to mind. And a local non-league side I'll go to watch for a catch-up and pint with a mate. I'd never claim to actually support them in the way I do Stoke. I remember as a young kid when we sold Garth Crooks to Spurs and being so upset I vowed to switch to Spurs. Lasted about three games!

I work on Royal Mail. A guy who I worked with, his Mrs had a giant tattoo of Kevin Keegan think it was on her leg . Made The Sentinel because he left Newcastle the week after she had it done 😂
I think with a club crest you can have two or three as long as they are the same club.
Back to the original thing , I get people having a soft spot same as the Bristol Rovers mention earlier but actually changing allegiance altogether is shocking.

A 'second club' in it's literal sense is bullshit, but there are definitely clubs which I will keep my eye on and want to do well. Stoke are the only ones that I truly care about though, if a club I quite like loses I don't really give a toss. Stoke I care about to the extent that they have probably impacted my mental health in the last few years . The other thing is I'm stuck with Stoke for life, whereas say a couple years ago I really wanted Spurs to do well because I enjoyed them under Poch but now under Mourinho I wish them all the ill will possible. Right now I'm half in love with Atalanta, a brilliantly entertaining side.

I can categorically say that the day my second club, Bristol Rovers fell out of the football league was my worst day ever as a football supporter. BM

Pete Bloor is from a generation that would comfortably and quite normally follow Stoke and Crewe.
This hating Crewe thing has only developed in the last 25 years or so. If you are under 30 then that's all your supporting time.
Don't get me wrong the bile has generally come from the Cheshire end and I find it unacceptable how that clubs has utterly failed to deal with the child abuse scandal.
