I was pleasantly surprised by Oakley Booth last night. I thought he filled Powell's boots quite well considering he was a last minute replacement and so probably hadn't had a lot of individual coaching for the game. Perhaps not the strongest but I noticed when Forest had the ball he used his speed (and he's quick) to get to the ball first and just nick possession.

Yes, a difference in our play especially in the first half was how much possession we maintained in their half and I Thought he contributed well towards this. We were pressing them and pushing them back which makes a pleasant change. I thought he did well.

Davies 8. One terrific save and generally a calming presence
Smith 7. solid Chester 7. see smith Batth 9. Brilliant! Indi. 7. McLean 8. Tenacious, was a threat & kept Lolley quiet.
Cousins 8. Really good at breaking up play but some wayward passes Thompson 7. Quality cross for the first goal Oakley-Boothe 6. Tried but didn't produce anything of note and was lightweight.
Vokes 6. Good running/pressure but didn't produce anything. Gregory 7. See Vokes but quicker and was able to get involved more
Sorenson 8. Really impressive. Broke up play same as Cousins but offers himself and good on the ball.
Campbell 8. Looked hungry, strong & good quality.
Tymon 9. Brilliant cameo, didn't put a foot wrong defensively & real quality in the final third.
Really good to see 3 youngsters come on and all make a positive impact!

Was going to post a thread about this but had to go to work, the easiest 10 for everybody including the coach driver, tea lady and toilet cleaner. Gouranga.

Whether a loan is right for Oakley Boothe at this stage could perhaps be debateable, he maybe just needs to toughen up and get more involved in the game, rather than give the impression he's hiding. He has the skills, as we saw in the latter stages of the Hull home game but is so easily knocked off the ball. Hopefully it will happen for him and our experienced players will help "sort him out."

With regard to Cousins I would completely agree. Breaks up play but with the ball i would suggest that he is woeful.
Saying that i do not feel comfortable having a go at players when they give their all. The commitment and fight last night was quite outstanding. Such an effort when there was nothing to play for was terrific.
I can’t wait for the new season to start. Can we play Forest Away first game?

I think MON got it spot on re Tymon. Basically as a full back in a four not good enough probably re height strength etc but in a 532 or 343 as wing back maybe ok? It just depends on what formation he wants as the default option!

Would not like to see him out on loan to be honest. When Powell does get injured, I’d rather have him there filling in than Ince. Fighting for a position will do him well and a preseason in a squad not fighting against relegation will help as well.

He may not be a ‘first name on the team sheet’ kind of guy, but he does work hard for the team. His defensive play is good and we look less fragile with him in the middle. The first few games back with Thompson and Clucas etc, were ridiculous. Players jogged through our midfield.

He is effectively already "on loan" with us, released by Spurs so he could get some hairs on his chest with a real club. Sending him to L1 club will just be setting him further back, not improving him. There's a real talent, and it's not to his detriment that O'Neill decied against grooming him in a relegation threatened team which regularly was falling apart. I'm sure if he'd been on the pitch when we suddenly sprang alive, you would have seen a better side of him too.

It just depends on what formation he wants as the default option! It also depends on which type of central defender is used adjacent to him Not to compare to McClean, but structurally , one of the reasons McClean failed as a left back was that he, a complete novice to the job, didn't get any help from a leftsided defender. We were playing some sort of a system at the time (don't ask me which), which also didn't help, it was a 2-man central defence, and they were both busy doing their own job. When you have a 3-man defence, it will be far more natural(easy for a leftsided cd to back the lwb up (unless the opposition plays with three central strikers), as Bruno did. It's a shame that he's leaving now that we finally play him properly again.
