The fans in Liverpool showing why the season should have been null and voided.
As I and many predicted their fans couldn’t help themselves in relation to coming to Anfield on mass and celebrating on mass with no consideration for social distancing or those around them at risk of Covid.
No doubt they’ll still be still depicted as those loveable scousers.
If Merseyside has a spike in a couple of weeks we’ll all know why.

It's a tough one. The reality is that Covid is probably here forever. This idea that we can somehow wait for a mythical time somewhere in the near future when the threat has gone away and everything can return back to normal is just folly. It's going to be an ever present threat that we as a society are going to have to get used to and that means that ultimately we will have to return to our normal lives and have gatherings etc with the risk that the virus will be passed on.
It's going to become like the flu in the sense that it's seasonal and will come and go. There will be vaccines but they'll be like the flu jab now, they will help protect but not provide complete immunity and they'll need updating every year to take account for the mutations. I think people need to get realistic and realise that there isn't going to be some magic day when this crisis is 'over', and there's going to have to be a phased return to normality because social distancing isn't just damaging for the economy, it's completely counter to human nature and is damaging to our very being. Unfortunately it's not going to die out and completely go away, neither is there going to be a strong, permanent vaccine that gives people permanent immunity from one dose or a treatment that works every time. People are going to have to get used to that and learn to live with the threat. And the unfortunate reality is that people are going to die, particularly vulnerable people and the elderly.

A good argument and I 100 hundred percent agree re trying to get back to normal. Having worked throughout the outbreak things definately need to reopen to get the economy going however I think we have to still go about our lives with caution and put in steps where possible eg shopping with a face mask. Clearly from watching the cricket and speaking to other clubs this will be done gradually. I think this “fuck it I’ll celebrate” attitude with beaches and parties has a lot to do with why we’re behind other countries in relation to the number of deaths though.

It’s not hard for it not to be a part of footy at the moment 0 crowds, breaks, tests etc. Clearly the clubs are taking it very seriously.

I’m more concerned that you were surprised that (only) Liverpool fans celebrated winning the league. 99% of people are sick of hearing about covid-19 and it’s not relevant anymore. They couldn’t stop rioters so football fans are going to celebrate winning the league.

I wasn't referring to anything the club did and I don't think that they would, but yes you are correct, however the reality is it would still happen and there would be thousands of Stoke fans outside the grounds, lining the streets, wherever...same with any club

I believe the Leeds open bus thing was done in consultation with the police as they felt it would encourage the fans to disperse & go home sooner.

Precisely that VE day gatherings, BLM matches, Bournemouth beach, London parks, etc etc. Everyone going crazy. More chance catching it in Lidl doing their daily shoplifting than outside

People are going to have to get used to that and learn to live with the threat. And the unfortunate reality is that people are going to die, particularly vulnerable people and the elderly. This is spot on - living in constant fear isn't the answer, we have to learn to live with the threat. In terms of mass gatherings while it's a more immediate threat I can't help thinking the simple answer is face masks - but at the moment there is a huge cultural resistance to wearing them. Japan never went into lockdown and have come out of the pandemic very well - in large part due to the fact nobody thinks twice about wearing face masks in crowded spaces - and it doesn't get more crowded than a Tokyo train station. The key thing is a core attitude change - face masks aren't about protecting the wearer it's first and foremost about protecting others - which as a secondary effect protects the wearer. We need to switch from it all being about me to it being all about us. On one level it is selfish to go out and celebrate your teams success in a public space - but if we won the league is there anyone out there who wouldn't have gone a bit mental? And if we were in the habit of grabbing a face mask before going out then going mental wouldn't be such a problem. Unless of course you're a country with a gun problem...

It's almost as though different things are of great importance to different people and an example had been set that lock down rules were advisory and individual interpretation was not just applicable but encouraged.
