he might just be a top notch professional who o'neill trusts immensely, i doubt he will be coming in as a guaranteed starter but as a bit of cover for a few positions. I think o'neill sees him as a great character and leader to have in the dressing room and round the club in general. Maybe a coaching role in the not to distant future. If MON sees him as a great character to have at the club, great, bring him in as part of his coaching/backroom staff, not a problem at all. Our situation at LB is far more problematic and as been for quite a few season's, it needs fixing with the best we can possibly get, we need to stop using band aids. Same goes for DM.

Clearly going to be our best manager since Macari. BM Best? Only time will tell. One who unites the club and the fanbase the best? Most probable. Calls for a manager to unite the fanbase make me cringe. The last thing a manager should worry about is uniting the fanbase - that will happen of its own accord if the team does well and the team won't do well if he tries to placate 20,000 know it alls with absolutely no idea how to manage a professional football club. Any half decent manager should respect the fans as people and hold them in utter contempt in terms of footballing knowledge. Rowett had the right attitude to the fanbase but made the mistake of showing it. Jones made the mistake of wanting to be liked. If O'Neill has a sense (and I think he has) he should just smile politely, ignore whatever crap advice is coming from the terraces and crack on backing his own judgement as to how to run the club. In terms of Chris Brunt personally I don't see where he fits as a player given his age and lack of match time recently. I assume O'Neill sees him as a leader in the dressing room and someone who's been there and done that in terms of promotion from the Championship. I would be looking at other players - but if O'Neill just smiles politely and cracks on doing what he thinks is best for the team I'll just shut up and leave him to it. Because he knows what he's doing and I'm just another fan with a half arsed opinion about a job I don't really know how to do.

Lou Macari once said that the biggest mistake a manager could make is assuming and even thinking that the supporters know nothing about football. He wasn't a bad judge.
