We need far better than a 35 year old who couldn’t get into a championship side this season. Injuries also scuppering him as well. This side is crying out for athleticism and pace. Not another pensioner here for a pay day because he’s a nice guy. The idea is to strengthen the 11 we have. Not bring in 35 year olds to offer nothing. I want to see players fighting for that shirt and healthy competition not a player coming in to top up his pension pot I just don't see how Brunt with (hopefully) a handful appearances spread across the season and his background presence has a negative impact on the squad. If he plays 15-20 games then I will be disappointed but he won't will he? It could all be irrelevant as he may not have signed. We’re never going agree on him mate, I personally think it’s a poor signing and a total waste of a squad number. You think it’s a good one. I actually hope you are right and I have to hold my hands up and say I was wrong, but if this signing comes off I don’t see anything other than a bloke touching 36 topping up his pension pot

He's hardly signing him to play every game and doesn't mean we won't be signing other players, younger or older.

He wouldn't be my idea of what we need but if Mick thinks he'll do a job for us that's good enough for me.

"Brunty baby" just made me actually wince I hope he's never referred to anything else other than 'Brunty baby' for the time he's at the club, if we do indeed sign him.

Not as left back though...can't see that...I hope

Don't like the signing at all myself but the Manager has earned himself a frigging fair bit of rope to do just what the fuck he wants to do!

He’d have been a shoe in for left back this season for us surely? And that’s where I have the worry. He’s better than what we have there but he’s not what we need there regularly. So hopefully we sign a left back too and a DM. Brunt coming on for 20 minutes though controlling a game when we’re 2-0 up. Yes please.

I think he'll be a good signing. I have the greatest of respect for Chris Brunt as a professional footballer, a record to be proud of. However considering the size of our squad, his age and his potential influence/value going into next season I’d be disappointed. If I’m wrong I would be the the first to be pleased and apologetic.

As back up - sound. As starting over 10 games - we’ve learned fuck all. I'd like to add and also on a back ups wage, something stupid was mentioned when we tried before if its 30k ish its bloody stupid.

As he doesn’t play in the positions of Allen,Cousins or Thompson the point of debate is relative to the others. 1. He wouldn’t dislodge McClean. 2. This restricts your comments to Indi and Tymon. Indi in the LB position has been targeted all season by other teams, Tymon hasn’t to-date been able to dislodge Indi IMHO I think MON will go for a traditional experienced LB with McClean in front of him. I wouldn’t be surprised to see both Indi and Tymon depart. But hey what do I know

You have to sign Brunty, he has the "Best Worst Song" in football:
"Oh Chrissy Brunt, Is wonderful, Oh Chrissy Brunt is wonderful, He's got a name that rhymes with Fanny, Oh Chrissy Brunt is wonderful."
Or do I mean "Worst Best Song"?

He plays central midfield 👍 I have always thought of Brunt in mainly a left sided midfield position, left wing back or LB (latterly and on occasions). Must be wrong He was but as he’s got older he’s played more inside where you don’t have to rely on pace etc. Again another warning flag maybe. He’s still played a bit at left back for West Brom though.

With NI, he started out a Left Winger until it became increasingly obvious he lacked real pace, at which point he dropped back to Left Midfield.
Then as he gained experience and knowledge, he often moved inside to Centre Mid.
Eventually, Michael moved him to LB for the last couple of years of his international career.
I'm pretty sure this mirrored his club game, too.
Anyhow, if Michael believes he can do a job for Stoke - as much off the field as on it? - then you can trust his judgement.
He would never sign a player out of sentiment or loyalty.
