What's your favourite Greek Island and why? I have been travelled to a few over the years but seen to have stopped at Kalymnos which is accessible via a flight Kos and a short ferry ride from Mastichari on the North West Side of Kos. No English bars, or the crap you get in most popular resorts... Its just plenty of Tavernas and some local bars... Perfect

I like Santorini for it's setting, first went nearly 40 years ago before the 'modern hippy type lot' came in, still great place and I want to see the excavations at Thira

Been there twice northy, once on a long ferry day trip from crete and then a few years later on a hydrofoil also from crete spending 3 nights in a self catering apartment, when we booked the apartment we just rocked up and some guy offered it to us for around 40 euros per night for 4 people and we said OK fine having only seen it from the main road.. We entered and opened the patio doors at the rear to be greeted with a panoramic view of the caldera... Absolutely stunning place mate but I hate the crowdy places these days so not returned unfortunately We shall return there one day though I am sure because it really is stunning Just remembered we did the excavations of Akrotiri and it's definitely worth a visit👍

Spetses. Modest little island,no cars everything horse drawn or walk. Plenty of life though but traditionally Greek. We rented a small outboard boat for the day, you could actually get round the island in about 45 minutes non stop but diving into the alcoves and beaches with beers and a picnic is the way to go. Flight to Athens is obviously fine but the transfer of about 2 and a half hours in a tired old coach without air con was unexpected. But the short ferry hop to the island was great. That smell of hot pine trees never goes away. Worth the effort.

Been to numerous Greek islands over the years. A few off the beaten track like Andros, Lefkada and Alonissos. But my favourite is a small island called Poros. Not far from Spetses as mentioned above. Relatively unspoiled but with a bustling harbour and a typically Greek main town with winding streets up to a clock tower that looks out over the whole town. Plenty of quiet little beaches and loads of opportunities to island hop or visit Athens. Was meant to have gone this earlier this year but for the virus. Have booked up for next year tho.

A-drinking town with a sailing problem 🤪🍺. I spend a lot of time around this area and Poros in particular. Not to be confused with Paros in the Cycladies. Also well worth visiting with Naxos a few miles to the East ⚓️

Paxos is my favourite, just a short ferry hop south of Corfu. No wild nightlife and about three towns/villages, but lovely. And take the little ferry over to Anti-Paxos for a day on the beach there. Been to Spetses, Poros, Hydra, Skiathos (a bit touristy),Skopelos (much quieter), Alonnisos (a little drab), Ios (party central in 1983!!!), Paros, Zante (a big mistake back in 1989, God knows what it's turned into!). Because of lockdown, I'm doing everything I was going to do this year next year, so my plan to go to Ithaca and pretend to be Odeysseus is now on hold until the year after.

Crete. So much history and large enough to do some exploring, the Samaria Gorge is a great walk, Chania is beautiful as are the mountains, Lake Kournas is just stunning.
Paleochora is a delightful peninsula where both ends of the main street end at a beach and the sea, you can watch flying fishes from the beachside taverns, last time I was there just before the millennium there were a good few ageing hippies left over from the 60s, great spot.

Never been to Greece but trips to Lesbos keep popping up on my ads. I don't ever remember putting anything about Aegean sea resorts into my search engine.

Yes, I think I meant Akrotiri excavations (I keep thinking of RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus)

Bettany Hughes is currently doing a 6 part series (1 part to go) on Ch5 of a Greek Odyssey, visiting many islands, certainly gives an insight into a lot of the islands, and also a lot of glimpses of her ample cleavage which resembles 2 bald men trying to escape a bodice. Worth looking it up on catch up, for both reasons www.facebook.com/watch/?v=747020606136649

Done all of the Ionian islands but Antipaxos is incredible, possibly the best beaches in Europe. No shops, no roads and just eight villas. We stayed in one for ten days last summer after staying in Parga, just opposite on the main land. (As you know) everybody who is on the beaches has had to get there by boat, save for the handful of people who are staying in the villas or living on the island. Our villa was right next to Bella Vista, I took this on my phone.

It’s tough out there at the moment , they have been quite rightly Very strict on Lockdown and quarantine regulations.
I do know the area very well and would be very happy to advise anybody about exploring the Islands should they want to explore in the future after hopefully this dreaded virus situation has resolved itself. This wonderful region is easily explored by using frequent inter island ferries.
At the moment People arriving from the UK are not permitted to enter but I have booked a flight to Athens at the end of August in the hope that the restrictions will be lifted.😀⚓️

I have only been to a few , but I liked Patmos with the monastery on the hill around a cave where the Book of Revelation was written .
When I was there sprigs of Rosemary were being hanged up in th cave which was part of a religious ceremony although I could only think of roast lamb at the time

Would like to go back with Jackie, my partner, as I keep boring her. Maybe I can do it with Ithaca thrown in.

Our visit to Samos was quite a memorable one for a number of reasons. I wasn't quite prepared for landing, the captain announced that the approach would be 'different' to normal so as to avoid Turkish airspace. He wasn't wrong, the plane was practically on its side giving you a great view of the ground. Apparently it's quite a short ex military runway. A large island but where we stayed was okay, unfortunately two days of the shits didn't help. The icing on the cake was a day spent on trip to Ephesus, just incredible it has to be done, my one and only venture onto that continent,we even fell into the buying a Turkish rug routine. I'd love to go back to the islands and try some of the places you've all recommended, sounds good.

Yes Mike, Bella Vista taverna overlooking Votoumi beach, the second beach the water taxi from Paxos takes you to. This is the first beach where they drop off, Vrika, that I took a few seconds footage of. All the other beaches on the island are completely deserted. Fly into Corfu. Hydrofoil to Paxos. You can now get a ferry from Paxos to Ithaca. Fly out of Kefalonia.

I didn't even know you could stay on Anti Paxos Paul. I guess people from Paxos flock there beacause it's all shingle on Paxos, but how great to be able to stay. I'm going to check it out now! Can you order me Swordfish steak with greek salad and a cold Amstel, and I'll be right there

Can you order me Swordfish steak with greek salad and a cold Amstel, and I'll be right there As I said there's only 8 villas on the island and a handful of cottages in the centre of the island for workers on the vineyard. All your groceries have to be delivered by boat, it is a proper Robinson Crusoe experience and although it's utterly idyllic, it certainly isn't for everybody. Before the visitors from Paxos arrive at about 10.30 am and after they have left at around 5pm, you have some of the best beaches in the Med, literally entirely to yourself, it is magical, I've never seen water that clear anywhere in the world. Having said all that, I don't think we'd do it again, when we've been before, it has always been as day visitors and that's a far more civilized way to do the beaches, although of course you don't ever get the island all to yourself.
