It was a steady, competent display of goalkeeping on a quiet afternoon. Which instantly made it the best goalkeeping performance I've seen from a Stoke keeper all season. That's really harsh.... ...Federici did all right when he played Agreed - we looked far better defensively and I never understood why he made way for Butland. I'd definitely stick with Davies - I think Butland makes the defence jittery, they just looked more assured with Davies there.

I think maybe we've seen the last of Jack in a Stoke shirt??? 🤔

By claiming he is injured does not diminish his value as much as when he’s dropped, Jack also saves face

Yes for me. If the move is as it should be, Jack moving on would be good for him as well as for the club. No ill feelings. Just time for a fresh start. Too much baggage at Stoke.

Seems to be a better kicker of the ball, and controlled his box better than Butland. Remains to be seen how he would deal with a better team, but I think he's done enough to keep the shirt for next game.

Thought his distribution was solid and given how long he's been out his handling was solid. The only concern I have with him is crosses and command of his area. Unlike Butland he tries to come and claim stuff but he just doesn't have the physicality. The foul in the first half where he dropped it wasn't a foul. It was a mistake and the performance at Brentford in the cup showed his aerial weakness also. In the short term yes he stays in but long term we need two new keepers. I thought the foul was on Powell who then got pushed into the keeper?

Adam has been working very hard during the lockdown and back in training. He deserves his chance.

Yes, it’s not all about saving shots, he did the basics really well today, came off his line, punched when needed, kicked very well. Keep him in. If you can pick Butland again after some of his performances this season then Davies definitely deserves to keep his place for the next game.

I think maybe we've seen the last of Jack in a Stoke shirt??? 🤔 God willing. Who'd have thought we'd be saying that a few years back??? It's a real shame how far his heads dropped!!! A defence needs a good keeper behind them, and a keeper needs a good defence in front of him.......with Butland (at the moment), we have neither!!!

Why can’t he dive to one side? Has he been picked just because of his name?

He did well today, and i have no doubt he would have done well all season. But after 1 goal at Brentford he was dropped for Butland... Lets be honest Butland has made worse clangors this season. The problem with dropping Butland is it may devalue him even more if we are going to part ways with him. Not that i have a problem with that, but the club might see it differently...

Perhaps Butland is the "bad egg"... I was a actually starting to think that the rest of the team might have started to resent him, plays shit, not dropped, let’s in soft goals doesn’t look bothered. I’d always thought the defence weren’t helping Butland but he hasn’t helped himself and his demeanor hasn’t looked great in a while

Perhaps Butland is the "bad egg"... I dont think so. I do think his confidence is destroyed. I also wonder about our gk coaching staff. He has had some pretty obvious problems over the last couple of seasons and doesn't seem to be improving them

Given the 3 games ahead of us and that Butland seems likely to be off then he should be given a run.

Do we assume that his 'neck injury' was a face-saving way to drop him without damaging his transfer value further?

Do we assume that his 'neck injury' was a face-saving way to drop him without damaging his transfer value further? O'Neill said Davies only got told he was playing on Saturday when Butland reported he hadn't recovered - which if true casts doubt on that theory. It would be very unfair on Davies to tell him he was playing on Saturday if O'Neill had made his mind up to drop Butland after the Leeds game. Even if the injury is real I just hope O'Neill sticks with Davies.

Absolutely Davies must keep his place Jack is simply not even remotely a shadow of his former self and that clearly transmits to our defensive unit. I would have defended him to the hilt until 2 years or so ago. But our inconsistent keeper who can't reliably kick, catch, come for crosses, get anywhere close to penalties, distributes poorly and who seems slow and lethargic in his thinking has reached the end of the line with us imho. He just oozes fragility. Jack's had plenty of time to recover his form and improve basic skills/technique and I'm now absolutely convinced it just isn't going to happen for him with Stoke anymore.
In short he's shot with us and I think plenty of people realise it.
